लाभो जनस्यास्य यदेष सर्वं। प्रपत्स्यते राष्ट्रमिदं चिराय । न ह्यप्रियं किंचन जातु कश्चित् । पश्येन्न कुःखं मनुजादिपेऽस्मिन् ॥ २-१६-४६

If this Rama obtains the entire kingdom for a long time, it will be in the interest of the people. If he becomes king none will ever witness anything unpleasant or sad. (They observed). [2-16-46]

english translation

स घोषवद्भिश्च हयैः सनागैः । पुरस्सरैः स्वस्तिकसूतमागधैः । महीयमानः प्रवरैश्च वादकैः । अभिष्टुतो वैश्रवणो यथा ययौ॥ २-१६-४७

With bards, panegyrists and great musical performers invoking blessings and walking ahead, he (Rama) proceeded, like Kubera amid intoxicated elephants and horses. [2-16-47]

english translation

करेणुमात्ङ्गरथाश्वसंकुलं । महाजनौघैः परिपूर्णचत्वरम् । प्रभूतरत्नं बहुपण्यसंचयं । ददर्श रामो विमलं महापथम् ॥ २-१६-४८

Rama beheld the beautiful highway filled with precious stones and merchandise (for sale), thronged with elephants, horses and chariots, the crossroads crowded with multitude of people. [2-16-48]
