रामस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा भरतः प्रत्युवाच ह | किं मे धर्माद्विहीनस्य राजधर्मः करिष्यति || २-१०१-१

On listening to Rama, Bharata replied Of what use shall be these royal duties to me, when I have fallen from righteousness? [2-101-1]

english translation

rAmasya vacanaM zrutvA bharataH pratyuvAca ha | kiM me dharmAdvihInasya rAjadharmaH kariSyati || 2-101-1

शाश्वतोऽयं सदा धर्मः स्थितोऽस्मासु नरर्षभ | ज्येष्ठेे पुत्रे स्थिते राजा न कनीयान् भवेन्नृपः || २-१०१-२

Oh ! best of men there is an ancient tradition in our race that the younger son cannot become king when the eldest is there. [2-101-2]

english translation

zAzvato'yaM sadA dharmaH sthito'smAsu nararSabha | jyeSThee putre sthite rAjA na kanIyAn bhavennRpaH || 2-101-2

स समृद्धां मया सार्धमयोध्यां गच्छ राघव | अभिषेचयचात्मानं कुलस्यास्य भवाय नः || २-१०१-३

Therefore, Oh ! scion of the Raghu race, return along with me to prosperous Ayodhya and for the good of our race get your self coronated. [2-101-3]

english translation

sa samRddhAM mayA sArdhamayodhyAM gaccha rAghava | abhiSecayacAtmAnaM kulasyAsya bhavAya naH || 2-101-3

राजानं मानुषं प्राहु र्देवत्वे सम्मतो मम | यस्य धर्मार्थसहितं वृत्तमाहुरमानुषम् || २-१०१-४

Other think the king to be a human, but to me, he is divine since his conduct and the statecraft are superhuman as they are in conformity with righteousness. [2-101-4]

rAjAnaM mAnuSaM prAhu rdevatve sammato mama | yasya dharmArthasahitaM vRttamAhuramAnuSam || 2-101-4

केकयस्थे च मयि तु त्वयि चारण्य माश्रिते | दिवमार्यो गतो राजा यायजूक: सतां मतः || २-१०१-५

While I was in Kekaya and you took refuge in the forest, venerable king (Dasaratha), who was always engaged in sacrifices and was held in high esteem by the virtuous, ascended to heaven. [2-101-5]

kekayasthe ca mayi tu tvayi cAraNya mAzrite | divamAryo gato rAjA yAyajUka: satAM mataH || 2-101-5
