उपेत्य तीरं गङ्गायाश्चक्रवाकैरलङ्कृतम् | व्यवातिष्ठत सा सेना भरतस्यानुयायिनी || २-८३-२१

The army following Bharata reached the bank of the river Ganga, graced by chakravakas (ruddy geese) and halted there. [2-83-21]

english translation

upetya tIraM gaGgAyAzcakravAkairalaGkRtam | vyavAtiSThata sA senA bharatasyAnuyAyinI || 2-83-21

निरीक्ष्यानुगतां सेनां तां च गङ्गां शिवोदकाम् | भरतः सचिवान्सर्वानब्रवीद्वाक्यकोविदः || २-८३-२२

sanskrit

As he beheld the army following him and the river Ganga of sacred waters in front of him, Bharata who was proficient in speech said to his ministers : - [2-83-22]

english translation

nirIkSyAnugatAM senAM tAM ca gaGgAM zivodakAm | bharataH sacivAnsarvAnabravIdvAkyakovidaH || 2-83-22

hk transliteration

निवेशयत मे सैन्यमभिप्रायेण सर्वतः | विश्रान्ताः प्रतरिष्यामश्श्व इदानीमिमां नदीम् || २-८३-२३

sanskrit

- 'You may, according to your convenience, halt the army anywhere here and, after taking rest (for the night), we shall cross the river Ganga tomorrow. [2-83-23]

english translation

nivezayata me sainyamabhiprAyeNa sarvataH | vizrAntAH pratariSyAmazzva idAnImimAM nadIm || 2-83-23

hk transliteration

दातुं च तावदिच्छामि स्वर्गतस्य महीपतेः | और्ध्वदेहनिमित्तार्थमवतीर्योदकं नदीम् || २-८३-२४

sanskrit

Meanwhile, I shall get into this river and offer libations with water to the departed king ( Mahaaraaj Dasharatha ) for the good of his life in the other world.' [2-83-24]

english translation

dAtuM ca tAvadicchAmi svargatasya mahIpateH | aurdhvadehanimittArthamavatIryodakaM nadIm || 2-83-24

hk transliteration

तस्यैवं ब्रुवतोऽमात्यास्तथेत्युक्त्वा समाहिताः | न्यवेशयंस्तां छन्देन स्वेन स्वेन पृथक्पृथक् || २-८३-२५

sanskrit

While he (Bharata's) was speaking this way, all the ministers assented by saying 'Be it so' and made arrangement for their troops to rest separately according to their pleasure. [2-83-25]

english translation

tasyaivaM bruvato'mAtyAstathetyuktvA samAhitAH | nyavezayaMstAM chandena svena svena pRthakpRthak || 2-83-25
