तान्येतान्यद्य पश्यामि निरानन्दानि सर्वशः । स्रस्तपर्णैरनुपथं विक्रोशद्भिरिव द्रुमैः ॥ २-७१-२६
Now the trees appear cheerless, the paths are full of dry leaves fallen all over. It appears as if the trees are crying. ॥ 2-71-26॥
english translation
tAnyetAnyadya pazyAmi nirAnandAni sarvazaH । srastaparNairanupathaM vikrozadbhiriva drumaiH ॥ 2-71-26
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनाद्यापि श्रूयते शब्दः मत्तानां मृगपक्षिणाम् । संरक्तां मधुरां वाणीं कलं व्याहरतां बहु ॥ २-७१-२७
I do not hear in the red tincture of the rising Sun the melodious voices of the freely moving animals and birds. ॥ 2-71-27॥

nAdyApi zrUyate zabdaH mattAnAM mRgapakSiNAm । saMraktAM madhurAM vANIM kalaM vyAharatAM bahu ॥ 2-71-27

Why is it that the incomparable fragrance of sandal and incense that used to fill the nostrils, not blowing now in the prosperous city of Ayodhya? ॥ 2-71-28॥

candanAgarusampRkto dhUpasammUrchito'tulaH । pravAti pavanaH zrImAnkinnunAdya yathApuram ॥ 2-71-28
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभेरीमृदङ्गवीणानां कोणसङ्घट्टितः पुनः । किमद्य शब्दो विरतस्सदा दीनगतिः पुरा ॥ २-७१-२९
Why is it that the sounds of musical instruments like mrudangas and veenas are not heard now? Why is the city filled with melancholy? ॥ 2-71-29॥

bherImRdaGgavINAnAM koNasaGghaTTitaH punaH । kimadya zabdo viratassadA dInagatiH purA ॥ 2-71-29

Since I see many passing, inauspicious, sinful, ugly sights, my mind shrinks. ॥ 2-71-30॥
