तस्मान्मामागतं भद्रे तस्योदारस्य तद्वचः | यदहं पुत्रशोकेन सन्त्यक्ष्याम्यद्य जीवितम् || २-६४-६१

Oh ! gentle lady, the words of that noble ascetic have come true today. Hence I am now going to give up my life. [2-64-61]

tasmAnmAmAgataM bhadre tasyodArasya tadvacaH | yadahaM putrazokena santyakSyAmyadya jIvitam || 2-64-61

Oh ! Kausalya, I cannot see you with my eyes. Touch me gently, said the frightened Dasaratha, Lord of the earth, to his wife weeping. [2-64-62]

cakSubhyAM tvAM na pazyAmi kausalye sAdhu mAM sphRza | ityuktvA sa rudaMstrasto bhAryAmAha ca bhUmipaH || 2-64-62

Whatever I have done to the scion of the Raghu family (Rama) is not befitting of me, Oh ! Devi. And whatever he has done in respect of me is worthy of him. [2-64-63]

etanme sadRzaM devi yanmayA rAghave kRtam | sadRzaM tattu tasyaiva yadanena kRtaM mayi || 2-64-63

Which clearsighted man in this world, will abandon his son even if he is of evil conduct? Which son will not get angry with his father when he is banished? [2-64-64]

durvRttamapi kaH putraM tyajedbhuvi vicakSaNaH | kazca pravrAjyamAno vA nAsUyetpitaraM sutaH || 2-64-64
