विक्लवो वीर्य हीनो यः स दैवम् अनुवर्तते । वीराः सम्भावित आत्मानो न दैवम् पर्युपासते ॥ २-२३-१६
Those who are timid and cowardly alone depend on destiny. The valiant with of self respect will not accept it. [2-23-16]
english translation
दैवम् पुरुष कारेण यः समर्थः प्रबाधितुम् । न दैवेन विपन्न अर्थः पुरुषः सो अवसीदति ॥ २-२३-१७
In the case of one capable of striking destiny with human efforts it cannot defeat his objective and bring him despondency. [2-23-17]
english translation
द्रक्ष्यन्ति तु अद्य दैवस्य पौरुषम् पुरुषस्य च । दैव मानुषयोः अद्य व्यक्ता व्यक्तिर् भविष्यति ॥ २-२३-१८
Today all will witness the power of destiny and the power of man. The difference between man and destiny will be manifested today. [2-23-18]
english translation
अद्य मत् पौरुष हतम् दैवम् द्रक्ष्यन्ति वै जनाः । यद्दैवादाहतं तेऽद्य दृष्टं राज्याभिषेचनम् ॥ २-२३-१९
Today people will see destiny defeated by my valour just as they saw your consecration defeated (obstructed) by destiny. [2-23-19]
english translation
अत्यङ्कुशमिवोद्दामं गजं मदबलोद्धतम् । प्रधावितम् अहम् दैवम् पौरुषेण निवर्तये ॥ २-२३-२०
I will make destiny, the elephant, running wild on the strength of the rut, unmanageable (even) by the goad, turn back with my valour. [2-23-20]
