अनुरक्तः अस्मि भावेन भ्रातरम् देवि तत्त्वतः । सत्येन धनुषा चैव दत्तेन इष्टेन ते शपे ॥ २-२१-१६
Oh ! mother, (Lakshmana now tells Kausalya) I am truly loyal to my brother ( Shri Rama ) from the bottom of my heart. I swear this by my bow, on my merits earned through charity, by my truthfulness and by the good deeds I have done. [2-21-16]
english translation
दीप्तमग्निमरण्यं वा यदि रामः प्रवेक्ष्यति । प्रविष्टम् तत्र माम् देवि त्वम् पूर्वम् अवधारय ॥ २-२१-१७
Oh ! mother rest assured should Rama enter a blazing fire or a forest I must have already entered it. [2-21-17]
english translation
हरामि वीर्यात् दुह्खम् ते तमः सूर्यैव उदितः । देवी पश्यतु मे वीर्यम् राघवः चैव पश्यतु ॥ २-२१-१८
Like the rising Sun dispelling darkness, I shall eliminate your sorrow. Oh ! mother, let Raaghava ( Rama ) see my valour. You, too.' [2-21-18]
english translation
एतत् तु वचनम् श्रुत्वा लक्ष्मणस्य महात्मनः । उवाच रामम् कौसल्या रुदन्ती शोक लालसा ॥ २-२१-१९
Having heard the words of the magnanimous Lakshmana, Kausalya, depressed and weeping, said to Rama [2-21-19]
english translation
भ्रातुस्ते वदतः पुत्र लक्ष्मणस्य श्रुतं त्वया । यदत्रानन्तरं कार्यं कुरुष्व यदि रोचते ॥ २-२१-२०
- 'Oh ! my son you have heard what your brother Lakshmana said and if it pleases you, do later what is to be done. [2-21-20]
