सुखानामुचितस्यैव दुःखैरनुचितस्य च । दुःखं नामानुपश्येयं कथं रामस्य धीमतः ॥ २-१३-११
Rama deserves happiness not suffering. How can I bear to see such a sagacious Rama undergoing distress? [2-13-11]
english translation
यदि दुःखमकृत्वाद्य मम संक्रमणं भवेत् । अदुःखार्हस्य रामस्य ततः सुखमवाप्नुयाम् ॥ २-१३-१२
If death comes to me right now, I shall be very happy because I will not have to inflict suffering on Rama who does not deserve it. [2-13-12]
english translation
नृशंसे पापसंकल्पे रामं स्त्यपराक्रमम् । किं विप्रियेण कैकेयि प्रियं योजयसे मम ॥ २-१३-१३
Oh ! cruel, malevolent Kaikeyi, why do you propose such a harmful act against Rama who has truth as his prowess and who is so dear to me? [2-13-13]
english translation
अकीर्तिरतुला लोके ध्रुवः परिभवश्च मे । तथा विलपतस्तस्य परिभ्रमित चेतसः ॥ २-१३-१४
Certainly, you will get unparalleled infamy and disgrace in this world.' While he ( Dasharatha ) was thus lamenting with a distracted mind - [2-13-14]

अस्तमभ्यगमत्सूर्यो रजनी चाभ्यवर्तत । सा त्रियामा तथार्तस्य चन्द्रमण्डलमण्डिता ॥ २-१३-१५
