विपुलां विततां चैव युक्तपाशां तरस्विनाम्। भूमौ बाणैर्विनिष्कृत्तां पतितां ज्यामिवायुधात् ॥ २-११४-१६
( Ayodhya appeared ) like a bow-string, which was large and bent, with suitable noose at both ends, but severed from the bow by the arrows of heroes and fallen to the ground. ॥ 2-114-16॥

vipulAM vitatAM caiva yuktapAzAM tarasvinAm। bhUmau bANairviniSkRttAM patitAM jyAmivAyudhAt ॥ 2-114-16
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसहसा युद्धशौण्डेन हयारोहेण वाहिताम् । निहतां प्रतिसैन्येन वडवामिव पातिताम् ॥ २-११४-१७
Ayodhya appeared like a mare, urged on suddenly by a horse-man, skilled in war-fare and fallen down when killed by the opposite army. ॥ 2-114-17॥

sahasA yuddhazauNDena hayAroheNa vAhitAm । nihatAM pratisainyena vaDavAmiva pAtitAm ॥ 2-114-17
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशुष्कतोयां महामत्स्यैः कूर्मैश्च बहुभिर्वृताम् । प्रभिन्नतटविस्तीर्णां वापीमिव हृतोत्पलाम् ॥ २-११४-१८
( Ayodhya appeared ) like a circular reservoir of water filled with a lot of large fishes and tortoises, with it's water dried up, vast area around the bank split and waterlilies withered. ॥ 2-114-18॥

zuSkatoyAM mahAmatsyaiH kUrmaizca bahubhirvRtAm । prabhinnataTavistIrNAM vApImiva hRtotpalAm ॥ 2-114-18

( Ayodhya appeared ) like a man's body with no oil massaged ( on the body ), without ornaments, scorched with grief in dejection like a stick (skeletal). ॥ 2-114-19॥

( Ayodhya appeared ) like the Sun's radiance entered deep into orb of clouds in the rainy season and obscured by black clouds. ॥ 2-114-20॥
