स लक्ष्मणस्य रामस्य ददर्शाऽश्रममीयुषः | कृतं वृक्षेष्वभिज्ञानं कुशचीरैः क्वचित्क्वचित् || २-९९-६

He ( Bharata ) beheld here and there knots of kusa grass and strips of bark tied on trees as signs to ascertain the way to the hermitage of Rama and Lakshmana. [2-99-6]

sa lakSmaNasya rAmasya dadarzA'zramamIyuSaH | kRtaM vRkSeSvabhijJAnaM kuzacIraiH kvacitkvacit || 2-99-6

ददर्श वने तस्मिन्महतः सञ्चयान्कृतान् | मृगाणां महिषाणां च करीषैः शीत कारणात् || २-९९-७

He also beheld large heaps of dried cakes of dung of buffaloes and deer for use against cold in the forest. [2-99-7]

dadarza vane tasminmahataH saJcayAnkRtAn | mRgANAM mahiSANAM ca karISaiH zIta kAraNAt || 2-99-7

गच्छन्नेव महाबाहुर्द्युतिमान् भरतः तदा | शत्रुघ्नं चाब्रवीद्धृष्टस्तानमात्यांश्च सर्वशः || २-९९-८

Walking on, the longarmed, effulgent and delighted Bharata said to Satrughna and the ministers surrounding him : - [2-99-8]

gacchanneva mahAbAhurdyutimAn bharataH tadA | zatrughnaM cAbravIddhRSTastAnamAtyAMzca sarvazaH || 2-99-8

मन्ये प्राप्ताः स्म तं देशं भरद्वाजो यमब्रवीत् | नातिदूरे हि मन्येऽहं नदीं मन्दाकिनीमितः || २-९९-९

- We must have reached the region about which Bharadwaja had spoken. I think river Mandakini is not far from here. [2-99-9]

manye prAptAH sma taM dezaM bharadvAjo yamabravIt | nAtidUre hi manye'haM nadIM mandAkinImitaH || 2-99-9

उच्चैर्बद्धानि चीराणि लक्ष्मणेन भवेदयम् | अभिज्ञानकृतः पन्था अकाले गन्तुमिच्छता || २-९९-१०

Here are long bark garments fastened on lofty places as marks of identification left by Lakshmana, to locate the path at odd times which may be needed while going out. [2-99-10]
