कश्चित् दैवेन सौमित्रे योद्धुम् उत्सहते पुमान् । यस्य न ग्रहणम् किंचित् कर्मणो अन्यत्र दृश्यते ॥ २-२२-२१
Oh ! Soumitre ( Lakshmana ) which mortal has the power to fight with destiny the grip of which can be comprehended by following its course only through its effect and nowhere else. [2-22-21]
english translation
kazcit daivena saumitre yoddhum utsahate pumAn । yasya na grahaNam kiMcit karmaNo anyatra dRzyate ॥ 2-22-21
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसुख दुह्खे भय क्रोधौ लाभ अलाभौ भव अभवौ । यस्य किंचित् तथा भूतम् ननु दैवस्य कर्म तत् ॥ २-२२-२२
Happiness or misery, fear or anger, gain or loss, birth or death, and all such things are surely the acts of destiny. [2-22-22]
english translation
sukha duhkhe bhaya krodhau lAbha alAbhau bhava abhavau । yasya kiMcit tathA bhUtam nanu daivasya karma tat ॥ 2-22-22
hk transliteration by Sanscriptऋषयो प्युग्रतपसो दैवेनाभिप्रपीडिताः । उत्सृज्य नियमाम् स्तीव्रान् भ्रश्यन्ते काममन्युभिः ॥ २-२२-२३
Even rishis with severe austerities are tormented by destiny and are swerved from their observances because of anger and passion. [2-22-23]
english translation
RSayo pyugratapaso daivenAbhiprapIDitAH । utsRjya niyamAm stIvrAn bhrazyante kAmamanyubhiH ॥ 2-22-23
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअसम्क्ल्पितमेवेह यदकस्मात् प्रवर्तते । निवर्त्यारम्भमारब्धम् ननु दैवस्य कर्म तत् ॥ २-२२-२४
Any unanticipated and sudden hindrance to the action undertaken shall be deemed to be the act of destiny. [2-22-24]
english translation
asamklpitameveha yadakasmAt pravartate । nivartyArambhamArabdham nanu daivasya karma tat ॥ 2-22-24
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएतया तत्त्वया बुद्ध्या संस्तभ्यात्मानमात्मना । व्याहते अपि अभिषेके मे परितापो न विद्यते ॥ २-२२-२५
Even though my consecration was thwarted, there is no feeling of sadness in me. In fact I controlled my mind by my intellect. [2-22-25]
english translation
etayA tattvayA buddhyA saMstabhyAtmAnamAtmanA । vyAhate api abhiSeke me paritApo na vidyate ॥ 2-22-25
