हन्त्येव नियमाद्वध्यानवध्ये च न कुप्यति | युनक्त्यर्थैः प्रहृष्टश्च तमसौ यत्र तुष्यति || २-२-४६

He kills those who rightly deserve to be killed and flares not at those whose life is to be spared. When pleased, he ( Rama ) bestows wealth. [2-2-46]

hantyeva niyamAdvadhyAnavadhye ca na kupyati | yunaktyarthaiH prahRSTazca tamasau yatra tuSyati || 2-2-46

शान्तैः सर्वप्रजाकान्तैः प्रीतिसंजननैर्नृणाम् | गुणैर्विरुरुचे रामो दीप्तः सूर्य इवांशुभिः || २-२-४७

Like the Sun shining with his rays, He shines with his qualities of tranquil, charming ( to all men ) and loving nature ( causing delight to the good ). [2-2-47]

zAntaiH sarvaprajAkAntaiH prItisaMjananairnRNAm | guNairviruruce rAmo dIptaH sUrya ivAMzubhiH || 2-2-47

तमेवंगुणसम्पन्नं रामं सत्यपराक्रमम् | लोकपालोपमं नाथमकामयत मेदिनी || २-२-४८

The earth desired to have Rama, richly endowed with such virtues, possessing proven prowess, comparable to Indra and other regents of the world, as her lord. [2-2-48]

Oh ! son of the Raghus (Dasharatha), because of your good fortune that Rama, endowed with the qualities of an ideal son like Kashyapa to Maricha was born to you for the welfare of this world. [2-2-49]

vatsaH zreyasi jAtaste diSTyAsau tava rAghava | diSTyA putraguNairyukto mArIca iva kAzyapaH || 2-2-49
