एवम् चेत्त्वं सहास्माभिस्तस्याः प्रेष्य भविष्यसि | पुत्रश्च तव रामस्य प्रेष्यभावं गमिष्यति || २-८-११

If you thus become her attendant along with us, your son Bharata will have to be Rama's attendant. [2-8-11]

english translation

evam cettvaM sahAsmAbhistasyAH preSya bhaviSyasi | putrazca tava rAmasya preSyabhAvaM gamiSyati || 2-8-11

हृष्टाः खलु भविष्यन्ति रामस्य परमाः स्त्रियः | अप्रहृष्टा भविष्यन्ति स्नुषास्ते भरतक्षये || २-८-१२

All the women of Rama's (palace) will be delighted indeed. With the decline of Bharata, your daughters-in-law will be deprived of all happiness.' [2-8-12]

english translation

hRSTAH khalu bhaviSyanti rAmasya paramAH striyaH | aprahRSTA bhaviSyanti snuSAste bharatakSaye || 2-8-12

तां दृष्ट्वा परमप्रीतां ब्रुवन्तीं मन्थरां ततः | रामस्यैव गुणान् देवी कैकेयि प्रशशंस ह || २-८-१३

Having seen that morose Manthara speaking thus, Kaikeyi commended the virtues of Rama. - [2-8-13]

tAM dRSTvA paramaprItAM bruvantIM mantharAM tataH | rAmasyaiva guNAn devI kaikeyi prazazaMsa ha || 2-8-13

धर्मज्ञो गुरुभिर्दान्तः कृतज्ञ सत्यवाक्चुचि | रामो राज्ञः सुतो ज्येष्ठो यौवराज्यमतोऽर्हति || २-८-१४

- 'Rama knows righteousness. He has been taught selfrestraint by elders. He is grateful and truthful. He is undefiled. He is the eldest son of the king. Therefore, he deserves to be the heir apparent (of the kingdom). [2-8-14]

dharmajJo gurubhirdAntaH kRtajJa satyavAkcuci | rAmo rAjJaH suto jyeSTho yauvarAjyamato'rhati || 2-8-14

भ्रातृ़न्भृत्यांश्च दीर्घायुः पितृवत्पालयिष्यति | संतप्यसे कथं कुब्जे श्रुत्वा रामाभिषेचनम् || २-८-१५

Blessed with a long life, Rama will protect his brothers and the servants like a father. Oh ! hunchback, hearing Rama's coronation why are you aggrieved? [2-8-15]
