[वै] ततॊ दिशः संप्रविहृत्य पार्था; मृगान वराहान महिषांश च हत्वा धनुर्धराः शरेष्ठतमाः पृथिव्यां; पृथक चरन्तः सहिता बभूवुः ॥ ३-२५३-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, "Meanwhile, those foremost archers on earth, having wandered separately in all directions and slain numerous deer and buffaloes, eventually reunited."' ॥ 3-253-1 ॥
english translation
ततॊ मृगव्यालगणानुकीर्णं; महावनं तद विहगॊपघुष्टम भरातॄंश च तान अभ्यवदद युधिष्ठिरः; शरुत्वा गिरॊ वयाहरतां मृगाणाम ॥ ३-२५३-२ ॥
'Observing that vast forest, teeming with herds of deer and wild beasts, Resounding with the sharp cries of birds, And hearing the distant roars and calls of its wild inhabitants, Yudhishthira turned to his brothers and spoke.' ॥ 3-253-2 ॥

आदित्यदीप्तां दिशम अभ्युपेत्य; मृगद्विजाः करूरम इमे वदन्ति आयासम उग्रं परतिवेदयन्तॊ; महाहवं शत्रुभिर वावमानम ॥ ३-२५३-३ ॥
'These birds and wild beasts, rushing toward the sunlit direction, Are crying out in discord and displaying great agitation. All this is a sign that this vast forest has been invaded by hostile intruders.' ॥ 3-253-3 ॥

कषिप्रं निवर्तध्वम अलं मृगैर नॊ; मनॊ हि मे दूयति दह्यते च बुद्धिं समाच्छाद्य च मे समन्युर; उद्धूयते पराणपतिः शरीरे ॥ ३-२५३-४ ॥
'Without a moment’s delay, let us abandon the chase—we have no more need of game. My heart aches and burns with unease! The very soul within me, overwhelming my reason, seems ready to flee.' ॥ 3-253-4 ॥

सरः सुपर्णेन हृतॊरगं यथा; राष्ट्रं यथा राजकम आत्तलक्ष्मि एवंविधं मे परतिभाति काम्यकं; शौण्डैर यथा पीतरसश च कुम्भः ॥ ३-२५३-५ ॥
'Just as a lake emptied of its mighty serpent by Garuda, As a pot drained dry by the thirsty, As a kingdom bereft of its king and fortune, So too does this Kamyaka forest now appear to me.' ॥ 3-253-5 ॥
