[वै] ते शूरास तत धन्वानस तूनवन्तः समार्गणाः बद्धगॊधाङ्गुलि तराणाः खद्गवन्तॊ ऽमितौजसः ॥ ३-१४३-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, "O king, then those foremost of bowmen, immeasurably strong, with their bows fully drawn, equipped with quivers and arrows, wearing finger-caps made of guana-skin, and girded with swords, set forth on their path."' ॥ 3-143-1 ॥

परिगृह्य दविजश्रेष्ठाञ शरेष्ठाः सर्वधनुष्मताम पाञ्चाली सहिता राजन परययुर गन्धमादनम ॥ ३-१४३-२ ॥
'Taking with them the foremost of Brahmanas, bearing the finest of arrows and all equipped for battle, and accompanied by Panchali, they set out, O king, for the Gandhamadana.' ॥ 3-143-2 ॥
english translation
सरांसि सरितश चैव पर्वतांश च वनानि च वृक्षांश च बहुल छायान ददृशुर गिरिमूर्धनि नित्यपुष्पफलान देशान देवर्षिगणसेवितान ॥ ३-१४३-३ ॥
'As they journeyed, they beheld numerous lakes, rivers, mountains, and forests, with trees spreading wide shade atop the mountain peaks. They saw lands abundant with trees bearing flowers and fruits in all seasons, frequented by celestial beings and sages.' ॥ 3-143-3 ॥

आत्मन्य आत्मानम आधाय वीरा मूलफलाशनाः चेरुर उच्चावचाकारान देशान विषमसंकटान पश्यन्तॊ मृगजातानि बहूनि विविधानि च ॥ ३-१४३-४ ॥
'With their senses under control and subsisting on fruits and roots, the heroes journeyed through rugged, craggy terrains, difficult to traverse, while witnessing various kinds of beasts.' ॥ 3-143-4 ॥
english translation
ऋरि सिद्धामर युतं गन्धर्वाप्सरसां परियम विविशुस ते महात्मानः किंनराचरितं गिरिम ॥ ३-१४३-५ ॥
'Thus, these high-souled ones reached the mountain, abode of sages, Siddhas, and celestials, and frequented by the Kinnaras and Apsaras.' ॥ 3-143-5 ॥
