[य] किमर्थं सहसा विन्ध्यः परवृद्धः करॊधमूर्छितः एतद इच्छाम्य अहं शरॊतुं विस्तरेण महामुने ॥ ३-१०२-१ ॥

'Yudhishthira said, "O revered sage! I wish to hear in detail the reason behind Vindhya's sudden increase in size, driven to madness by his anger."' ॥ 3-102-1 ॥

english translation

[लॊमष] अद्रिराजं महाशैलं मरुं कनकपर्वतम उदयास्तमये भानुः परदक्षिणम अवर्तत ॥ ३-१०२-२ ॥

'Lomasa said, "The sun, as it rises and sets, would revolve around that monarch of mountains, the great Meru, resplendent with golden luster."' ॥ 3-102-2 ॥

english translation

तं तु दृष्ट्वा तथा विन्ध्यः शैलः सूर्यम अथाब्रवीत यथा हि मेरुर भवता नित्यशः परिगम्यते परदक्षिणं च करियते माम एवं कुरु भास्कर ॥ ३-१०२-३ ॥

'Observing this, the mountain Vindhya addressed the sun, saying, 'O maker of light, just as you honor Meru by circling around him daily, I wish for you to do the same for me!'' ॥ 3-102-3 ॥

english translation

एवम उक्तस ततः सूर्यः शैलेन्द्रं परत्यभासत नाहम आत्मेच्छया शैलकरॊम्य एनं परदक्षिणम एष मार्गः परदिष्टॊ मे येनेदं निर्मितं जगत ॥ ३-१०२-४ ॥

'Thus addressed, the Sun responded to the mighty mountain, saying, "I do not honor you with my circumambulations out of my own will. It is the builders of this universe who have assigned this path to me."' ॥ 3-102-4 ॥

english translation

एवम उक्तस ततः करॊधात परवृद्धः सहसाचलः सूर्या चन्द्रमसॊर मार्गं रॊद्धुम इच्छन परंतप ॥ ३-१०२-५ ॥

'Upon hearing this, the mountain, filled with wrath and desiring to obstruct the Sun and the Moon, began to swell suddenly.' ॥ 3-102-5 ॥
