[अर्ज] ततॊ ऽहं सतूयमानस तु तत्र तत्र महर्षिभिः अपश्यम उदधिं भीमम अपां पतिम अथाव्ययम ॥ ३-१६६-१ ॥
'Arjuna continued, 'Then, as I proceeded through places eulogized by the great sages, I eventually beheld the vast ocean—the inexhaustible lord of waters.'' ॥ 3-166-1 ॥
english translation
फेनवत्यः परकीर्णाश च संहताश च समुच्छ्रिताः उर्मयश चात्र दृश्यन्ते चलन्त इव पर्वताः नावः सहस्रशस तत्र रत्नपूर्णाः समन्ततः ॥ ३-१६६-२ ॥
'And like flowing cliffs, the heaving billows were seen, now meeting together, now rolling apart. Around, thousands of boats, filled with gems, were visible.' ॥ 3-166-2 ॥
english translation
तिमिंगिलाः कच्छपाश च तथा तिमितिमिंगिलाः मकराश चात्र दृश्यन्ते जले मग्ना इवाद्रयः ॥ ३-१६६-३ ॥
'There were also seen fish, tortoises, and makaras, like rocks submerged in the water.' ॥ 3-166-3 ॥

शङ्खानां च सहस्राणि मग्नान्य अप्सु समन्ततः दृश्यन्ते सम यथा रात्रौ तारास तन्व अभ्रसंवृताः ॥ ३-१६६-४ ॥
'Thousands of conch shells submerged in water all around were seen, like stars appearing faintly through thin clouds at night.' ॥ 3-166-4 ॥

तथा सहस्रशस तत्र रत्नसंघा लवन्त्य उत वायुश च घूर्णते भीमस तद अद्भुतम इवाभवत ॥ ३-१६६-५ ॥
'Thousands upon thousands of gems were floating in heaps, and a fierce wind swirled around, creating a scene that was truly wondrous to behold.' ॥ 3-166-5 ॥
