बृहदश्व उवाच अथ काले शुभे पराप्ते तिथौ पुण्ये कषणे तथा आजुहाव महीपालान भीमॊ राजा सवयंवरे ॥ ३-५४-१ ॥

'Vrihadaswa continued, "Then, at the sacred hour of the holy lunar day during the auspicious season, King Bhima summoned the kings to the Swayamvara."' ॥ 3-54-1 ॥

english translation

तच छरुत्वा पृथिवीपालाः सर्वे हृच्छयपीडिताः तवरिताः समुपाजग्मुर दमयन्तीम अभीप्सवः ॥ ३-५४-२ ॥

'Upon hearing of this, all the earthly rulers, struck by love, swiftly gathered, eager to win Damayanti's hand.' ॥ 3-54-2 ॥

english translation

कनकस्तम्भरुचिरं तॊरणेन विराजितम विविशुस ते महारङ्गं नृपाः सिंहा इवाचलम ॥ ३-५४-३ ॥

'The monarchs entered the amphitheater, resplendent with golden pillars and a grand archway, like mighty lions venturing into the mountain wilderness.' ॥ 3-54-3 ॥

english translation

तत्रासनेषु विविधेष्व आसीनाः पृथिवीक्षितः सुरभिस्रग्धराः सर्वे सुमृष्टमणिकुण्डलाः ॥ ३-५४-४ ॥

'The lords of the earth, adorned with fragrant garlands and polished earrings set with gems, took their places upon their respective thrones.' ॥ 3-54-4 ॥

english translation

तां राजसमितिं पूर्णां नागैर भॊगवतीम इव संपूर्णां पुरुषव्याघ्रैर वयाघ्रैर गिरिगुहाम इव ॥ ३-५४-५ ॥

'And that hallowed assembly of kings, adorned by those valiant tigers among men, resembled Bhogavati teeming with Nagas, or a mountain cavern filled with fierce tigers.' ॥ 3-54-5 ॥
