[य] मान्धाता राजशार्दूलस तरिषु लॊकेषु विश्रुतः कथं जातॊ महाब्रह्मन यौवनाश्वॊ नृपॊत्तमः कथं चैतां परां काष्ठां पराप्तवान अमितद्युतिः ॥ ३-१२६-१ ॥
'Yudhishthira said, "O great Brahmana, how was Mandhata, the son of Yuvanaswa, born—he who was the supreme ruler among kings and renowned throughout the three worlds? How did he, possessed of immeasurable radiance, come to achieve such unparalleled power."' ॥ 3-126-1 ॥

यस्य लॊकास तरयॊ वश्या विष्णॊर इव महात्मनः एतद इच्छाम्य अहं शरॊतुं चरितं तस्य धीमतः ॥ ३-१२६-२ ॥
'With all the three worlds under his dominion, as if they were under the sway of Vishnu, the mighty soul? I am eager to hear the story of this wise and illustrious king, along with the details of his life and remarkable achievements.' ॥ 3-126-2 ॥

यथा मान्धातृशब्दश च तस्य शक्रसमद्युतेः जन्म चाप्रति वीर्यस्य कुशलॊ हय असि भाषितुम ॥ ३-१२६-३ ॥
'I would also like to hear how he came to be named Mandhata, a name that shines as brightly as Indra's, and how he, endowed with unparalleled strength, was born. For you are skilled in narrating such events.' ॥ 3-126-3 ॥

[ल] शृणुष्वावहितॊ राजन राज्ञस तस्य महात्मनः यथा मान्धातृशब्दॊ वै लॊकेषु परिगीयते ॥ ३-१२६-४ ॥
'Lomasa said, "Listen carefully, O king, as I recount how the name of Mandhata, belonging to that mighty-souled monarch, became renowned throughout all the worlds."' ॥ 3-126-4 ॥

इक्ष्वाकुवंशप्रभवॊ युवनाश्वॊ महीपतिः सॊ ऽयजत पृथिवीपाल ऋतुभिर भूरिदक्षिणैः ॥ ३-१२६-५ ॥
'Yuvanaswa, the sovereign of the earth, descended from the noble Ikshvaku lineage. As the protector of the realm, he conducted numerous grand sacrifices, renowned for their abundant offerings.' ॥ 3-126-5 ॥
