बृहदश्व उवाच सा तच छरुत्वानवद्याङ्गी सार्थवाहवचस तदा अगच्छत तेन वै सार्धं भर्तृदर्शनलालसा ॥ ३-६२-१ ॥

'Vrihadaswa said: "Upon hearing the words of the caravan leader, the flawless Damayanti, eager to see her husband, set out with the caravan."' ॥ 3-62-1 ॥

english translation

अथ काले बहुतिथे वने महति दारुणे तडागं सर्वतॊभद्रं पद्मसौगन्धिकं महत ॥ ३-६२-२ ॥

'After traveling for many days, the merchants came upon a vast lake, fragrant with lotuses, nestled in the heart of that dense and terrifying forest.' ॥ 3-62-2 ॥

english translation

ददृशुर वणिजॊ रम्यं परभूतयवसेन्धनम बहुमूलफलॊपेतं नानापक्षिगणैर वृतम ॥ ३-६२-३ ॥

'Its beauty was striking, surrounded by grass, abundant with firewood, fruits, and flowers, making it exceedingly delightful. It was home to various kinds of birds and fowl, with abundant, clear, and sweet water. ' ॥ 3-62-3 ॥

english translation

तं दृष्ट्वा मृष्टसलिलं मनॊहरसुखावहम सुपरिश्रान्तवाहास ते निवेशाय मनॊ दधुः ॥ ३-६२-४ ॥

'The lake was cool and enchanting, captivating the heart. Exhausted from their journey, the caravan decided to rest there. ' ॥ 3-62-4 ॥

english translation

संमते सार्थवाहस्य विविशुर वनम उत्तमम उवास सार्थः सुमहान वेलाम आसाद्य पश्चिमाम ॥ ३-६२-५ ॥

'With their leader’s permission, they dispersed throughout the beautiful woods. As evening approached, the great caravan halted at that spot.' ॥ 3-62-5 ॥
