[दरौ] नमॊ धात्रे विधात्रे च यौ मॊहं चक्रतुस तव पितृपैतामहे वृत्ते वॊढव्ये ते ऽनयथा मतिः ॥ ३-३१-१ ॥
'Draupadi said, "I bow to Dhatri and Vidhatri, who have clouded your judgment! You are deviating from the path followed by your ancestors and forefathers regarding the burden you are meant to bear."' ॥ 3-31-1 ॥
english translation
नेह धर्मानृशंस्याभ्यां न कषान्त्या नार्जवेन च पुरुषः शरियम आप्नॊति न घृणित्वेन कर्हि चित ॥ ३-३१-२ ॥
'Men are placed in different situations in life based on their actions. Therefore, actions produce inevitable consequences, and true liberation comes from overcoming mere folly. It seems that one cannot attain prosperity in this world solely through virtue, gentleness, forgiveness, straightforwardness, and fear of criticism.' ॥ 3-31-2 ॥
english translation
तवां चेद वयसनम अभ्यागाद इदं भारत दुःसहम यत तवं नार्हसि नापीमे भरातरस ते महौजसः ॥ ३-३१-३ ॥
'If this were not the case, O Bharata, such an unbearable calamity would never have befallen you and your illustrious brothers.' ॥ 3-31-3 ॥
english translation
न हि ते ऽधयगमज जातु तदानीं नाद्य भारत धर्मात परियतरं किं चिद अपि चेज जीविताद इह ॥ ३-३१-४ ॥
'Neither in times of prosperity nor in adversity have you, O Bharata, ever valued anything more than virtue, which you have held even dearer than life itself.' ॥ 3-31-4 ॥
english translation
धर्मार्थम एव ते राज्यं धर्मार्थं जीवितं च ते बराह्मणा गुरवश चैव जानत्य अपि च देवताः ॥ ३-३१-५ ॥
'That your kingdom is dedicated solely to virtue, and that your life is similarly devoted to righteousness, is well known to the Brahmins, your elders, and even the celestial beings.' ॥ 3-31-5 ॥
