[मार्क] शिवा भार्या तवाङ्गिरसः शीलरूपगुणान्विता तस्याः सा परथमं रूपं कृत्वा देवी जनाधिप जगाम पावकाभ्याशं तं चॊवाच वराङ्गना ॥ ३-२१४-१ ॥

'Markandeya continued, "O lord of men, the virtuous and radiant Siva, renowned for her impeccable character, was the wife of Angiras, one of the revered seven Rishis. Assuming the guise of Siva, the noble lady Swaha first approached Agni and addressed him, saying—"' ॥ 3-214-1 ॥

english translation

माम अग्ने कामसंतप्तां तवं कामयितुम अर्हसि करिष्यसि न चेद एवं मृतां माम उपधारय ॥ ३-२१४-२ ॥

'O Agni, I am tormented by love for you. Please find it within your heart to accept me. If you do not grant my plea, know that I will embrace death.' ॥ 3-214-2 ॥

english translation

अहम अङ्गिरसॊ भार्या शिवा नाम हुताशन सखीभिः सहिता पराप्ता मन्त्रयित्वा विनिश्चयम ॥ ३-२१४-३ ॥

'I am Siva, the wife of Angiras. I have come here at the behest of the other Rishis' wives, who, after careful deliberation, advised and sent me to you.' ॥ 3-214-3 ॥

english translation

[अग्नि] कथं मां तवं विजानीषे कामार्तम इतराः कथम यास तवया कीर्तिताः सर्वाः सप्तर्षीणां परियाः सत्रियः ॥ ३-२१४-४ ॥

'Agni replied, "How did you come to know that I was tormented by love? And how could the others—the beloved wives of the seven Rishis, whom you mentioned—be aware of this?"' ॥ 3-214-4 ॥

english translation

[षिवा] अस्माकं तवं परियॊ नित्यं बिभीमस तु वयं तव तवच चित्तम इङ्गितैर जञात्वा परेषितास्मि तवान्तिकम ॥ ३-२१४-५ ॥

'Swaha replied, "You have always been dear to us, yet we hold a sense of fear towards you. Having discerned your thoughts through unmistakable signs, they have sent me to your presence."' ॥ 3-214-5 ॥
