भीमसेनार्जुनौ चैव माद्रेयौ च मया सह तयजेस तवम इति मे बुद्धिर न तु धर्मं परित्यजेः ॥ ३-३१-६ ॥
'I believe you can forsake Bhimasena, Arjuna, the sons of Madri, and even myself, but you cannot abandon virtue.' ॥ 3-31-6 ॥
english translation
राजानं धर्मगॊप्तारं धर्मॊ रक्षति रक्षितः इति मे शरुतम आर्याणां तवां तु मन्ये न रक्षति ॥ ३-३१-७ ॥
'I have heard that the king upholds virtue, and in turn, virtue protects him. However, I see that virtue does not seem to be protecting you.' ॥ 3-31-7 ॥
english translation
अनन्या हि नरव्याघ्र नित्यदा धर्मम एव ते बुद्धिः सततम अन्वेति छायेव पुरुषं निजा ॥ ३-३१-८ ॥
'Just as a shadow follows a man, your heart, O tiger among men, steadfastly seeks virtue with unwavering purpose.' ॥ 3-31-8 ॥
english translation
नावमंस्था हि सदृशान नावराञ शरेयसः कुतः अवाप्य पृथिवीं कृत्स्नां न ते शृङ्गम अवर्धत ॥ ३-३१-९ ॥
'You have never disregarded those who are your equals, inferiors, or superiors. Even if you were to gain the entire earth, you would still fall short of attaining the peak of virtue. ' ॥ 3-31-9 ॥
english translation
सवाहाकारैः सवधाभिश च पूजाभिर अपि च दविजान दैवतानि पितॄंश चैव सततं पार्थ सेवसे ॥ ३-३१-१० ॥
'Even after gaining the entire world, your pride has never increased, O son of Pritha. You consistently worship the Brahmins, the gods, and the ancestors with offerings, rituals, and other forms of reverence.' ॥ 3-31-10 ॥
