तम अतीत्य महावेगं सर्वाम्भॊ निधिम उत्तमम अपश्यं दानकाकीर्णं तद दैत्य पुरम अन्तिकात ॥ ३-१६६-६ ॥
'Having gazed upon that magnificent ocean, lord of all waters with its mighty tides, I saw, at a short distance, the city of the demons, teeming with Danavas.' ॥ 3-166-6 ॥
english translation
tama atItya mahAvegaM sarvAmbhò nidhima uttamama apazyaM dAnakAkIrNaM tada daitya purama antikAta ॥ 3-166-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्रैव मातलिस तूर्णं निपत्य पृथिवीतले नादयन रथघॊषेण तत पुरं समुपाद्रवत ॥ ३-१६६-७ ॥
'And there, Matali, skilled in guiding the chariot, swiftly descended to the earth and, seated firmly, drove it with great force, causing the city to tremble with the thunderous sound of his chariot.' ॥ 3-166-7 ॥
english translation
tatraiva mAtalisa tUrNaM nipatya pRthivItale nAdayana rathaghòSeNa tata puraM samupAdravata ॥ 3-166-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptरथघॊषं तु तं शरुत्वा सतनयित्नॊर इवाम्बरे मन्वाना देवराजं मां संविग्ना दानवाभवन ॥ ३-१६६-८ ॥
'Hearing the chariot's rattling, like the rumbling of thunderclouds in the sky, the Danavas, mistaking me for the lord of the celestials, were filled with agitation.' ॥ 3-166-8 ॥

rathaghòSaM tu taM zarutvA satanayitnòra ivAmbare manvAnA devarAjaM mAM saMvignA dAnavAbhavana ॥ 3-166-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसर्वे संभ्रान्तमनसः शरचाप धराः सथिताः तथा शूलासिपरशु गदामुसलपाणयः ॥ ३-१६६-९ ॥
'Then, terrified at heart, they all stood, gripping in their hands bows, arrows, swords, javelins, axes, maces, and clubs.' ॥ 3-166-9 ॥

sarve saMbhrAntamanasaH zaracApa dharAH sathitAH tathA zUlAsiparazu gadAmusalapANayaH ॥ 3-166-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ दवाराणि पिदधुर दानवास तरस्तचेतसः संविधाय पुरे रक्षां न सम कश चन दृश्यते ॥ ३-१६६-१० ॥
'Then, with their minds alarmed, the Danavas secured the city's defenses, shutting the gates so that nothing could be seen or discovered.' ॥ 3-166-10 ॥
