बन्धिष्ये सेतुना गङ्गां सुखः पन्था भविष्यति कलिश्यते हि जनस तात तरमाणः पुनः पुनः ॥ ३-१३५-३६ ॥
'Indra said, "I am attempting, O my son, to dam the Ganga so that a convenient passage may be created. People face great difficulty in crossing and recrossing the river by boat."' ॥ 3-135-36 ॥
english translation
bandhiSye setunA gaGgAM sukhaH panthA bhaviSyati kalizyate hi janasa tAta taramANaH punaH punaH ॥ 3-135-36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनायं शक्यस तवया बद्धुं महान ओघः कथं चन अशक्याद विनिवर्तस्व शक्यम अर्थं समारभ ॥ ३-१३५-३७ ॥
'Yavakri replied, "O one endowed with ascetic power, thou canst not dam this mighty river. O Brahmana, desist from this impossible task and take up something that is within thy reach."' ॥ 3-135-37 ॥
english translation
nAyaM zakyasa tavayA baddhuM mahAna oghaH kathaM cana azakyAda vinivartasva zakyama arthaM samArabha ॥ 3-135-37 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयथैव भवता चेदं तपॊ वेदार्थम उद्यतम अशक्यं तद्वद अस्माभिर अयं भारः समुद्यतः ॥ ३-१३५-३८ ॥
'Indra said, "O sage, I have undertaken this arduous task, just as you have begun these penances in pursuit of Vedic knowledge, though they can never bear fruit."' ॥ 3-135-38 ॥
english translation
yathaiva bhavatA cedaM tapò vedArthama udyatama azakyaM tadvada asmAbhira ayaM bhAraH samudyataH ॥ 3-135-38 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयथा तव निरर्थॊ ऽयम आरम्भस तरिदशेश्वर तथा यदि ममापीदं मन्यसे पाकशासन ॥ ३-१३५-३९ ॥
'O Lord of the thirty gods (Indra), just as this endeavor of yours was futile/purposeless, if you think that my (endeavor) is also similar/the same.' ॥ 3-135-39 ॥
english translation
yathA tava nirarthò 'yama Arambhasa taridazezvara tathA yadi mamApIdaM manyase pAkazAsana ॥ 3-135-39 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकरियतां यद भवेच छक्यं मया सुरगणेश्वर वरांश च मे परयच्छान्यान यैर अन्यान भवितास्म्य अति ॥ ३-१३५-४० ॥
'Yavakri replied, "If, O lord of the celestials, my efforts are to be as fruitless as thine, then grant me, O king of the gods, that which is within your power. Bestow upon me boons that will allow me to surpass all others."' ॥ 3-135-40 ॥

kariyatAM yada bhaveca chakyaM mayA suragaNezvara varAMza ca me parayacchAnyAna yaira anyAna bhavitAsmya ati ॥ 3-135-40 ॥
