सुमुहूर्तं महद युद्धम आसीत तल लॊमहर्षणम भुजप्रहार संयुक्तं वृत्रवासवयॊर इव ॥ ३-४०-४६ ॥
'As a result of the fierce exchange of blows between the son of Pandu and the Kirata, loud and fearsome sounds erupted in that place. This terrible clash, reminiscent of the ancient battle between Vritra and Indra, lasted only for a brief moment.' ॥ 3-40-46 ॥
english translation
sumuhUrtaM mahada yuddhama AsIta tala lòmaharSaNama bhujaprahAra saMyuktaM vRtravAsavayòra iva ॥ 3-40-46 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptजहाराथ ततॊ जिष्णुः किरातम उरसा बली पाण्डवं च विचेष्टन्तं किरातॊ ऽपय अहनद बलात ॥ ३-४०-४७ ॥
'The mighty Jishnu, clasping the Kirata, began to bear down on him with his chest. However, the strong Kirata pressed the insensible son of Pandu with overwhelming force.' ॥ 3-40-47 ॥

jahArAtha tatò jiSNuH kirAtama urasA balI pANDavaM ca viceSTantaM kirAtò 'paya ahanada balAta ॥ 3-40-47 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतयॊर भुजविनिष्पेषात संघर्षेणॊरसॊस तथा समजायत गात्रेषु पावकॊ ऽङगारधूमवान ॥ ३-४०-४८ ॥
'As a result of the strain in their arms and chests, their bodies began to emit smoke, resembling charcoal in flames.' ॥ 3-40-48 ॥

tayòra bhujaviniSpeSAta saMgharSeNòrasòsa tathA samajAyata gAtreSu pAvakò 'GagAradhUmavAna ॥ 3-40-48 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत एनं महादेवः पीड्य गात्रैः सुपीडितम तेजसा वयाक्रमद रॊषाच चेतस तस्य विमॊहयन ॥ ३-४०-४९ ॥
'The great god then struck the already battered son of Pandu, unleashing his full might in anger and leaving him bereft of his senses.' ॥ 3-40-49 ॥

tata enaM mahAdevaH pIDya gAtraiH supIDitama tejasA vayAkramada ròSAca cetasa tasya vimòhayana ॥ 3-40-49 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ निपीडितैर गात्रैः पिण्डी कृत इवाबभौ फल्गुनॊ गात्रसंरुद्धॊ देवदेवेन भारत ॥ ३-४०-५० ॥
'Then, O Bharata, Phalguna, pressed by the god of gods and with his limbs bruised and mangled, became unable to move, reduced almost to a mere mass of flesh.' ॥ 3-40-50 ॥
