[वै] गतेषु तेषु सर्वेषु तपस्विषु महात्मसु पिनाक पाणिर भगवान सर्वपापहरॊ हरः ॥ ३-४०-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, "When all the illustrious ascetics had departed, the mighty wielder of the Pinaka, the cleanser of all sins— the glorious Hara (Lord Shiva) appeared."' ॥ 3-40-1 ॥
english translation
कैरातं वेषम आस्थाय काञ्चनद्रुम संनिभम विभ्राजमानॊ वपुषा गिरिर मेरुर इवापरः ॥ ३-४०-२ ॥
'Taking the form of a radiant Kirata, shining like a golden tree, his immense and towering figure stood like a second Meru.' ॥ 3-40-2 ॥
english translation
शरीमद धनुर उपादाय शरांश चाशीविषॊपमान निष्पपात महार्चिष्मान दहन कक्षम इवानलः ॥ ३-४०-३ ॥
'He carried a splendid bow and arrows as deadly as venomous serpents. Like a blazing embodiment of fire, he swiftly descended upon the slopes of Himavat.' ॥ 3-40-3 ॥
english translation
देव्या सहॊमया शरीमान समानव्रतवेषया नानावेषधरैर हृष्टैर भूतैर अनुगतस तदा ॥ ३-४०-४ ॥
'The radiant lord of gods was accompanied by Uma, disguised as a Kirata woman, along with a host of joyous spirits in diverse forms and attire.' ॥ 3-40-4 ॥

किरात वेषप्रच्छन्नः सत्रीभिश चानु सहस्रशः अशॊभत तदा राजन स देवॊ ऽतीव भारत ॥ ३-४०-५ ॥
'Thousands of women, all in the guise of Kiratas, followed them as well.' ॥ 3-40-5 ॥
