[य] असंशयं भारत सत्यम एतद; यन मा तुदन वाक्यशल्यैः कषिणॊषि न तवा विगर्हे परतिकूलम एतन; ममानयाद धि वयसनं व आगात ।। ३-३५-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaisampayana said, "Thus addressed by Bhimasena, the high-souled King Ajatasatru, firmly devoted to truth, gathered his patience and, after a brief pause, spoke these words: 'Indeed, O Bharata, what you say is undoubtedly true. I cannot blame you for wounding me with your sharp words. This calamity has arisen solely due to my own folly.'" ।। 3-35-1 ।।

english translation

[ya] asaMzayaM bhArata satyama etada; yana mA tudana vAkyazalyaiH kaSiNòSi na tavA vigarhe paratikUlama etana; mamAnayAda dhi vayasanaM va AgAta || 3-35-1 ||

hk transliteration

अहं हय अक्षान अन्वपद्यं जिहीर्षन; राज्यं सराष्ट्रं धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्रात तन मा शठः कितव्वः परत्यदेवीत; सुयॊधनार्थं सुबलस्य पुत्रः ।। ३-३५-२ ।।

sanskrit

'I aimed to reclaim the kingdom and its sovereignty from Dhritarashtra's son. It was for this reason that the crafty Sakuni, the son of Suvala, played against me on behalf of Duryodhana.' ।। 3-35-2 ।।

english translation

ahaM haya akSAna anvapadyaM jihIrSana; rAjyaM sarASTraM dhRtarASTrasya putrAta tana mA zaThaH kitavvaH paratyadevIta; suyòdhanArthaM subalasya putraH || 3-35-2 ||

hk transliteration

महामायः शकुनिः पार्वतीयः; सदा सभायां परवपन्न अक्षपूगान अमायिनं मायया परत्यदेवीत; ततॊ ऽपश्यं वृजिनं भीमसेन ।। ३-३५-३ ।।

sanskrit

'Unversed as I am in such deceptions, Sakuni, casting the dice in the assembly with his cunning, defeated me through trickery. It is, therefore, O Bhimasena, that we have been overwhelmed by this calamity.' ।। 3-35-3 ।।

english translation

mahAmAyaH zakuniH pArvatIyaH; sadA sabhAyAM paravapanna akSapUgAna amAyinaM mAyayA paratyadevIta; tatò 'pazyaM vRjinaM bhImasena || 3-35-3 ||

hk transliteration

अक्षान हि दृष्ट्वा शकुनेर यथावत; कामानुलॊमान अयुजॊ युजश च शक्यं नियन्तुम अभविष्यद आत्मा; मन्युस तु हन्ति पुरुषस्य धैर्यम ।। ३-३५-४ ।।

sanskrit

'Seeing that the dice were favorable to Sakuni's designs, I could have managed my own mind. However, anger has driven away my patience.' ।। 3-35-4 ।।

english translation

akSAna hi dRSTvA zakunera yathAvata; kAmAnulòmAna ayujò yujaza ca zakyaM niyantuma abhaviSyada AtmA; manyusa tu hanti puruSasya dhairyama || 3-35-4 ||

hk transliteration

यन्तुं नात्मा शक्यते पौरुषेण; मानेन वीर्येण च तात नद्धः न ते वाचं भीमसेनाभ्यसूये; मन्ये तथा तद भवितव्यम आसीत ।। ३-३५-५ ।।

sanskrit

'O child, the mind cannot be controlled when influenced by arrogance, vanity, or pride. I do not reproach thee, Bhimasena, for thy words. I only believe that what has befallen us was preordained.' ।। 3-35-5 ।।

english translation

yantuM nAtmA zakyate pauruSeNa; mAnena vIryeNa ca tAta naddhaH na te vAcaM bhImasenAbhyasUye; manye tathA tada bhavitavyama AsIta || 3-35-5 ||
