[कॊटि] का तवं कदम्बस्य विनम्य शाखाम; एकाश्रमे तिष्ठसि शॊभमाना देदीप्यमानाग्निशिखेव नक्तं; दॊधूयमाना पवनेन सुभ्रूः ॥ ३-२४९-१ ॥
'Kotika said, 'Excellent lady, who are you, standing alone and leaning on a branch of the Kadamba tree in this hermitage? You appear grand like a flame blazing in the night, fanned by the wind.'' ॥ 3-249-1 ॥
english translation
अतीव रूपेण समन्विता तवं; न चाप्य अरण्येषु बिभेषि किं नु देवी नु यक्षी यदि दानवी वा; वराप्सरा दैत्य वराङ्गना वा ॥ ३-२४९-२ ॥
'Exquisitely beautiful as you are, how is it that you feel no fear in these forests? I think you must be a goddess, or a Yakshi, or a Danavi, or a superb Apsara, or the wife of a Daitya.' ॥ 3-249-2 ॥
english translation
वपुष्मती वॊरग राजकन्या; वनेचरी वा कषणदाचर सत्री यद्य एव राज्ञॊ वरुणस्य पत्नी; यमस्य सॊमस्य धनेश्वरस्य ॥ ३-२४९-३ ॥
'Whether you are the daughter of the Naga king, a Rakshasi, or the wife of Varuna, Yama, Soma, or Kubera?' ॥ 3-249-3 ॥
english translation
धातुर विधातुः सवितुर विभॊर वा; शक्रस्य वा तवं सदनात परपन्ना न हय एव नः पृच्छसि ये वयं सम; न चापि जानीम तवेह नाथम ॥ ३-२४९-४ ॥
'Having assumed a human form, do you wander through these forests? Or have you come from the celestial mansions of Dhātṛ, Vidhātṛ, Savitṛ, Vibhu, or Indra? You do not ask who we are, nor do we know who your protector is in this place!' ॥ 3-249-4 ॥
english translation
वयं हि मानं तव वर्धयन्तः; पृच्छाम भद्रे परभवं परभुं च आचक्ष्व बन्धूंश च पतिं कुलं च; तत्त्वेन यच चेह करॊषि कार्यम ॥ ३-२४९-५ ॥
'With respect, O noble lady, we ask—who is your mighty father? Pray, tell us truly the name of your husband, your kin, and your lineage, And also reveal the purpose of your presence here.' ॥ 3-249-5 ॥
