इन्द्रत्वे ऽपि सथितं वीर बलहीनं पराजितम आवयॊश च मिथॊ भेदे परयतिष्यन्त्य अतन्द्रिताः ॥ ३-२१८-१६ ॥
'Especially now that I have been stripped of my power and defeated by you, if I were to act as Indra, I would not command the respect of all creatures. They would sow discord between us, and, my lord, they would become the partisans of one or the other of us.' ॥ 3-218-16 ॥
english translation
भेदिते च तवयि विभॊ लॊकॊ दवैधम उपेष्यति दविधा भूतेषु लॊकेषु निश्चितेष्व आवयॊस तथा विग्रहः संप्रवर्तेत भूतभेदान महाबल ॥ ३-२१८-१७ ॥
'When you are divided, O Mighty One, the world shall descend into duality. With beings and worlds firmly established in their divisions, a conflict between us shall inevitably arise, shattering the existing order through the separation of fundamental elements.' ॥ 3-218-17 ॥
english translation
तत्र तवं मां रणे तात यथाश्रद्धं विजेष्यसि तस्माद इन्द्रॊ भवान अद्य भविता मा विचारय ॥ ३-२१८-१८ ॥
'There in battle, you shall conquer me according to your conviction. Therefore, today you shall become Indra - do not hesitate or doubt.' ॥ 3-218-18 ॥
english translation
[सकन्द] तवम एव राजा भद्रं ते तरैलॊक्यस्य ममैव च करॊमि किं च ते शक्र शासनं तद बरवीहि मे ॥ ३-२१८-१९ ॥
'Skanda replied, "You, O Sakra, are my sovereign, as well as the ruler of the three worlds; may you be prosperous! Tell me, if there are any commands of yours that I can obey."' ॥ 3-218-19 ॥
english translation
[षक्र] यदि सत्यम इदं वाक्यं निश्चयाद भाषितं तवया यदि वा शासनं सकन्द कर्तुम इच्छसि मे शृणु ॥ ३-२१८-२० ॥
'Indra replied, "At your bidding, O powerful being, I shall continue to act as Indra. And if you have spoken this with full intent and sincerity, then listen to how you can fulfill your desire to serve me."' ॥ 3-218-20 ॥
