नैताः शक्या मया दरष्टुं सप्रष्टुं वाप्य अनिमित्ततः गार्हपत्यं समाविश्य तस्मात पश्याम्य अभीक्ष्णशः ॥ ३-२१३-४६ ॥
'Yet I am filled with longing to possess them. It is unlawful for me to gaze upon them or touch them without their desire. Therefore, I shall satisfy myself by daily gazing upon them, becoming their Garhapatya (household) fire.' ॥ 3-213-46 ॥
english translation
संस्पृशन्न इव सर्वास ताः शिखाभिः काञ्चनप्रभाः पश्यमानश च मुमुदे गार्हपत्यं समाश्रितः ॥ ३-२१३-४७ ॥
'Markandeya continued, 'The Adbhuta fire, thus transformed into a household fire, was deeply gratified by seeing those gold-complexioned ladies and touching them with his flames.'' ॥ 3-213-47 ॥
english translation
निरुष्य तत्र सुचिरम एवं वह्निर वशंगतः मनस तासु विनिक्षिप्य कामयानॊ वराङ्गनाः ॥ ३-२१३-४८ ॥
'Overcome by their charms, he lingered there for a long time, giving his heart to them and consumed with intense desire for them.' ॥ 3-213-48 ॥

कामसंतप्त हृदयॊ देहत्यागे सुनिश्चितः अलाभे बराह्मण सत्रीणाम अग्निर वनम उपागतः ॥ ३-२१३-४९ ॥
'Frustrated in all his attempts to win the hearts of the Brahmana ladies, and tormented by his own desires, he went to the forest with the resolute intention of ending his life.' ॥ 3-213-49 ॥

सवाहा तं दक्षदुहिता परथमं कामयत तदा सा तस्य छिद्रम अन्वैच्छच चिरात परभृति भामिनी अप्रमत्तस्य दैवस्य न चापश्यद अनिन्दिता ॥ ३-२१३-५० ॥
'Some time earlier, Swaha, the daughter of Daksha, had fallen in love with him. The noble lady, for a long while, had been attempting to discover his vulnerabilities, but the faultless fire-god remained undisturbed and beyond her reach.' ॥ 3-213-50 ॥
