इज्याध्ययन दानानि तपः सत्यं कषमा दमः अलॊभ इति मार्गॊ ऽयं धर्मस्याष्ट विधः समृतः ॥ ३-२-७१ ॥
'The essential duties, according to the Vedas, are sacrifices, study of the scriptures, giving, penance, truthfulness, forgiveness, self-control, and renunciation of desires. These eight cardinal duties constitute the true path.' ॥ 3-2-71 ॥
english translation
तत्र पूर्वश चतुर्वर्गः पितृयानपथे सथितः कर्तव्यम इति यत कार्यं नाभिमानात समाचरेत ॥ ३-२-७२ ॥
'Of these duties, the first four are aimed at attaining the world of the Pitris (ancestors) and should be performed without ego or personal pride.' ॥ 3-2-72 ॥

उत्तरॊ देव यानस तु सद्भिर आचरितः सदा अष्टाङ्गेनैव मार्गेण विशुद्धात्मा समाचरेत ॥ ३-२-७३ ॥
'The remaining four, which lead to the heavenly realms, are practiced by the devout and should also be followed with humility. Those seeking spiritual liberation must rigorously adhere to eightfold paths. ' ॥ 3-2-73 ॥

सम्यक संकल्पसंबन्धात सम्यक चेन्द्रियनिग्रहात सम्यग वरतविशेषाच च सम्यक च गुरु सेवनात ॥ ३-२-७४ ॥
'Those who seek to achieve salvation must act with complete detachment from personal motives, rigorously control their senses, steadfastly observe their vows, faithfully serve their teachers, discipline their diet, diligently study the Vedas, eschew base actions, and restrain their hearts.' ॥ 3-2-74 ॥

सम्यग आहारयॊगाच च सम्यक चाध्ययनागमात सम्यक कर्मॊपसंन्यासात सम्यक चित्तनिरॊधनात एवं कर्माणि कुर्वन्ति संसारविजिगीषवः ॥ ३-२-७५ ॥
'Those who wish to conquer the cycle of existence should practice the following: proper diet and discipline, proper study and understanding of the scriptures, renunciation of wrongful actions, and complete control of the mind.' ॥ 3-2-75 ॥
