धर्मः परः पाण्डव राज्यलाभात; तस्यार्थम आहुस तप एव राजन सत्यार्जवाभ्यां चरता सवधर्मं; जितस तवायं च परश च लॊकः ॥ ३-१८०-१६ ॥
'He said, "O King, virtue is superior to the acquisition of kingdoms; in fact, it is the practice of austerities. By following your prescribed duties with truth and integrity, you have secured both this world and the next."' ॥ 3-180-16 ॥
english translation
अघीतम अग्रे चरता वरतानि सम्यग; धनुर्वेदम अवाप्य कृत्स्नम कषात्रेण धर्मण वसूनि लब्ध्वा; सर्वे हय अवाप्ताः करतवः पुराणाः ॥ ३-१८०-१७ ॥
'First, you have studied while fulfilling your religious duties; having mastered the entire science of arms in the proper way, you have earned wealth by adhering to the prescribed methods for the warrior class. Moreover, you have performed all the time-honored sacrificial rites.' ॥ 3-180-17 ॥

न गराम्यधर्मेषु रतिस तवास्ति; कामान न किं चित कुरुषे नरेन्द्र न चार्थलॊभात परजहासि धर्मं; तस्मात सवभावाद असि धर्मराजः ॥ ३-१८०-१८ ॥
'You take no pleasure in sensual delights, nor do you, O Lord of men, act out of desire for enjoyment. You do not deviate from virtue due to greed for wealth. For this reason, you are called the Virtuous King, O son of Pritha!' ॥ 3-180-18 ॥

धानं च सत्यं च तपॊ च राजञ; शरद्धा च शान्तिश च धृतिः कषमा च अवाप्य राष्ट्राणि वसूनि भॊगान; एषा परा पार्थ सदा रतिस ते ॥ ३-१८०-१९ ॥
'Having attained kingdoms, wealth, and the means of enjoyment, your greatest joy has been in charity, truth, austerity, faith, meditation, forbearance, and patience, O King!' ॥ 3-180-19 ॥

यदा जनौघः कुरुजाङ्गलानां; कृष्णां सभायाम अवशाम अपश्यत अपेतधर्मव्यवहार वृत्तं; सहेत तत पाण्डव कस तवदन्यः ॥ ३-१८०-२० ॥
'When the people of Kuru-jangala saw Krishna insulted in the assembly hall, who but you, O son of Pandu, could endure such conduct, which was so contrary to both virtue and tradition?' ॥ 3-180-20 ॥
