विप्राः समुद्राम्भसि मज्जितास ते; वाचा जिता मेधया आविदानाः तां मेधया वाचम अथॊज्जहार; यथा वाचम अवचिन्वन्ति सन्तः ॥ ३-१३४-२६ ॥
'Ashtavakra declared, "Through cunning words and deceit, Vandin had consigned the Brahmanas to the depths of the sea. Today, with the sharpness of my intellect, I have reclaimed the Vedic truths he suppressed with false arguments. Let impartial men now pass their judgment."' ॥ 3-134-26 ॥

अग्निर दहञ जातवेदाः सतां गृहान; विसर्जयंस तेजसा न सम धाक्षीत बालेषु पुत्रेषु कृपणं वदत्सु; तथा वाचम अवचिन्वन्ति सन्तः ॥ ३-१३४-२७ ॥
'Just as Agni, discerning the virtuous from the wicked, spares the righteous from his flames and favors them, so too do the wise evaluate even the words of youth, lacking eloquence, and uphold them when they are just.' ॥ 3-134-27 ॥
english translation
शलेष्मातकी कषीणवर्चः शृणॊषि; उताहॊ तवां सतुतयॊ मादयन्ति हस्तीव तवं जनक वितुद्यमानॊ; न मामिकां वाचम इमां शृणॊषि ॥ ३-१३४-२८ ॥
'O Janaka, it seems my words fall on deaf ears, as if you have been stupefied by the fruit of the Śleṣmātakī tree. Or perhaps the intoxication of flattery has dulled your senses, for though my words strike you like a goad upon an elephant, you choose not to heed them.' ॥ 3-134-28 ॥

शृणॊमि वाचं तव दिव्यरूपाम; अमानुषीं दिव्यरूपॊ ऽसि साक्षात अजैसीर यद बन्दिनं तवं विवादे; निसृष्टैव तव कामॊ ऽदय बन्दी ॥ ३-१३४-२९ ॥
'Janaka said, "Your words, profound and extraordinary, reveal a wisdom beyond human reach. Your very form radiates a divine presence. Having defeated Vandin in debate today, I entrust him to your judgment."' ॥ 3-134-29 ॥

नानेन जीवता कश चिद अर्थॊ मे बन्दिना नृप पिता यद्य अस्य वरुणॊ मज्जयैनं जलाशये ॥ ३-१३४-३० ॥
'Ashtavakra replied, "O King, sparing Vandin’s life serves no purpose for me. If he is truly the son of Varuna, let him return to the sea where he belongs."' ॥ 3-134-30 ॥
