[अस्त] अत्रॊग्रसेनसमितेषु राजन; समागतेष्व अप्रतिमेषु राजसु न वै विवित्सान्तरम अस्ति वादिनां; महाजले हंसनिनादिनाम इव ॥ ३-१३४-१ ॥
'Ashtavakra said, "O king, O leader of fierce legions, in this assembly of mighty monarchs, unmatched in power, I cannot yet discern Vandin, the chief of disputants. I seek him, even as one seeks a swan amidst the vast expanse of water."' ॥ 3-134-1 ॥
english translation
[asta] atrògrasenasamiteSu rAjana; samAgateSva apratimeSu rAjasu na vai vivitsAntarama asti vAdinAM; mahAjale haMsaninAdinAma iva ॥ 3-134-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन मे ऽदय वक्ष्यस्य अति वादिमानिन; गलहं पर पन्नः सरिताम इवागमः हुताशनस्येव समिद्ध तेजसः; सथिरॊ भवस्वेह ममाद्य बन्दिन ॥ ३-१३४-२ ॥
'O Vandin, thou deemest thyself the foremost of disputants. But when thou dost face me in this contest, thou shalt not flow as a river does in its current. I am like a blazing fire—silent now, yet fierce when provoked. Be still before me, O Vandin! Do not stir a sleeping tiger.' ॥ 3-134-2 ॥
english translation
na me 'daya vakSyasya ati vAdimAnina; galahaM para pannaH saritAma ivAgamaH hutAzanasyeva samiddha tejasaH; sathirò bhavasveha mamAdya bandina ॥ 3-134-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवयाघ्रं शयानं परति मा परबॊधय; आशीविषं सृक्किणी लेलिहानम पदाहतस्येव शिरॊ ऽभिहत्य; नादष्टॊ वै मॊक्ष्यसे तन निबॊध ॥ ३-१३४-३ ॥
'Know that you will not escape unscathed, after stepping on the head of a venomous serpent, licking the corners of its mouth with your tongue, and striking it with your foot.' ॥ 3-134-3 ॥
english translation
vayAghraM zayAnaM parati mA parabòdhaya; AzIviSaM sRkkiNI lelihAnama padAhatasyeva zirò 'bhihatya; nAdaSTò vai mòkSyase tana nibòdha ॥ 3-134-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयॊ वै दर्पात संहननॊपपन्नः; सुदुर्बलः पर्वतम आविहन्ति तस्यैव पाणिः सनखॊ विशीर्यते; न चैव शैलस्य हि दृश्यते वरणः ॥ ३-१३४-४ ॥
'The man who, in his pride and strength, attempts to strike a blow at a mountain only harms his own hands and nails, but the mountain remains unharmed.' ॥ 3-134-4 ॥
english translation
yò vai darpAta saMhananòpapannaH; sudurbalaH parvatama Avihanti tasyaiva pANiH sanakhò vizIryate; na caiva zailasya hi dRzyate varaNaH ॥ 3-134-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसर्वे राज्ञॊ मैथिलस्य मैनाकस्येव पर्वताः निकृष्ट भूता राजानॊ वत्सा अनदुहॊ यथा ॥ ३-१३४-५ ॥
'Just as other mountains are inferior to Mainaka, and calves to the ox, so are all the kings of the earth inferior to the lord of Mithila.' ॥ 3-134-5 ॥

sarve rAjJò maithilasya mainAkasyeva parvatAH nikRSTa bhUtA rAjAnò vatsA anaduhò yathA ॥ 3-134-5 ॥
