अस्तावक्रः समितौ गर्जमानॊ; जातक्रॊधॊ बन्दिनम आह राजन उक्ते वाक्ये चॊत्तरं मे बरवीहि; वाक्यस्य चाप्य उत्तरं ते बरवीमि ।। ३-१३४-६ ।।

sanskrit

'And as Indra is supreme among the celestials, and the Ganga is the greatest of rivers, so, O king, thou alone art the greatest of monarchs. Therefore, I ask thee, bring Vandin before me.' ।। 3-134-6 ।।

english translation

astAvakraH samitau garjamAnò; jAtakròdhò bandinama Aha rAjana ukte vAkye còttaraM me baravIhi; vAkyasya cApya uttaraM te baravImi || 3-134-6 ||

hk transliteration

एक एवाग्निर बहुधा समिध्यते; एकः सूर्यः सर्वम इदं परभाषते एकॊ वीरॊ देवराजॊ निहन्ता; यमः पितॄणाम ईश्वरश चैक एव ।। ३-१३४-७ ।।

sanskrit

'Vandin replied, "There is but one fire that blazes in many forms; one sun that illumines the entire world; one hero, Indra, the lord of the celestials, who vanquishes foes; and one Yama, the sole ruler of the Pitris."' ।। 3-134-7 ।।

english translation

eka evAgnira bahudhA samidhyate; ekaH sUryaH sarvama idaM parabhASate ekò vIrò devarAjò nihantA; yamaH pitRRNAma Izvaraza caika eva || 3-134-7 ||

hk transliteration

दवाव इन्द्राग्नी चरतॊ वै सखायौ; दवौ देवर्षी नारदः पर्वतश च दवाव अश्विनौ दवे च रथस्य चक्रे; भार्या पती दवौ विहितौ विधात्रा ।। ३-१३४-८ ।।

sanskrit

'Ashtavakra said, "The two companions, Indra and Agni, always journey together; the two celestial sages are Narada and Parvata; the Aswinikumaras are twins; two are the wheels of a chariot; and it is by divine decree that the husband and wife live as a pair."' ।। 3-134-8 ।।

english translation

davAva indrAgnI caratò vai sakhAyau; davau devarSI nAradaH parvataza ca davAva azvinau dave ca rathasya cakre; bhAryA patI davau vihitau vidhAtrA || 3-134-8 ||

hk transliteration

तरिः सूयते कर्मणा वै परजेयं; तरयॊ युक्ता वाजपेयं वहन्ति अध्वर्यवस तरिसवनानि तन्वते; तरयॊ लॊकास तरीणि जयॊतींसि चाहुः ।। ३-१३४-९ ।।

sanskrit

'Vandin said, "Three types of beings are created by actions; the three Vedas together uphold the Vajapeya sacrifice; at three distinct times, the Adhwaryus begin the sacrificial rites; three are the sacred words; and three are the divine lights."' ।। 3-134-9 ।।

english translation

tariH sUyate karmaNA vai parajeyaM; tarayò yuktA vAjapeyaM vahanti adhvaryavasa tarisavanAni tanvate; tarayò lòkAsa tarINi jayòtIMsi cAhuH || 3-134-9 ||

hk transliteration

चतुष्टयं बराह्मणानां निकेतं; चत्वारॊ युक्ता यज्ञम इमं वहन्ति दिशश चतस्रश चतुरश च वर्णाश; चतुस्पदा गौर अपि शश्वद उक्ता ।। ३-१३४-१० ।।

sanskrit

'Ashtavakra replied, "Four are the Ashramas of the Brahmanas; four orders perform the sacrifices; four are the cardinal directions; four is the number of syllables; and four, as is always known, are the legs of a cow."' ।। 3-134-10 ।।

english translation

catuSTayaM barAhmaNAnAM niketaM; catvArò yuktA yajJama imaM vahanti dizaza catasraza caturaza ca varNAza; catuspadA gaura api zazvada uktA || 3-134-10 ||
