पञ्चाग्नयः पञ्च पदा च पङ्क्तिर; यज्ञाः पञ्चैवाप्य अथ पञ्चेन्द्रियाणि दृष्टा वेदे पञ्च चूदाश च पञ्च; लॊके खयातं पञ्चनदं च पुण्यम ।। ३-१३४-११ ।।

sanskrit

'The five sacred fires and the five-footed meter (pankti), The five types of sacrifices and the five senses, The five sections seen in the Vedas and the five tufts of hair (cuda), And the sacred land of five rivers (Punjab) is renowned in the world.' ।। 3-134-11 ।।

english translation

paJcAgnayaH paJca padA ca paGktira; yajJAH paJcaivApya atha paJcendriyANi dRSTA vede paJca cUdAza ca paJca; lòke khayAtaM paJcanadaM ca puNyama || 3-134-11 ||

hk transliteration

षडाधाने दक्षिणाम आहुर एके; षड एवेमे ऋतवः कालचक्रम षड इन्द्रियाण्य उत षट कृत्तिकाश च; षट साद्यस्काः सर्ववेदेषु दुष्टाः ।। ३-१३४-१२ ।।

sanskrit

'Ashtavakra said, "Six cows, some assert, are given as a gift when the sacred fire is kindled; six are the seasons that comprise the cycle of time; six is the number of the senses; six stars make up the Krittika constellation; and in all the Vedas, six is the number associated with the Sadyaska sacrifice."' ।। 3-134-12 ।।

english translation

SaDAdhAne dakSiNAma Ahura eke; SaDa eveme RtavaH kAlacakrama SaDa indriyANya uta SaTa kRttikAza ca; SaTa sAdyaskAH sarvavedeSu duSTAH || 3-134-12 ||

hk transliteration

सप्त गराम्याः पशवः सप्त वन्याः; सप्त छन्दांसि करतुम एकं वहन्ति सप्तर्षयः सप्त चाप्य अर्हणानि; सप्त तन्त्री परथिता चैव वीना ।। ३-१३४-१३ ।।

sanskrit

'Vandin said, "Seven is the number of domesticated animals; seven are the wild animals; seven metres are employed in performing a sacrifice; seven are the sages; seven forms of offering respect exist in the world; and seven, as is known, are the strings of the Vina."' ।। 3-134-13 ।।

english translation

sapta garAmyAH pazavaH sapta vanyAH; sapta chandAMsi karatuma ekaM vahanti saptarSayaH sapta cApya arhaNAni; sapta tantrI parathitA caiva vInA || 3-134-13 ||

hk transliteration

अष्टौ शाणाः शतमानं वहन्ति; तथाष्ट पादः शरभः सिंहघाती अष्टौ वसूञ शुश्रुम देवतासु; यूपश चाष्टास्रिर विहितः सर्वयज्ञः ।। ३-१३४-१४ ।।

sanskrit

'Ashtavakra said, "Eight are the bags that hold a hundredfold; eight are the legs of the Sarabha, the creature that hunts lions; eight Vasus, as we have heard, are among the celestials; and eight are the angles of the yupa (sacrificial stake) in all rites of sacrifice."' ।। 3-134-14 ।।

english translation

aSTau zANAH zatamAnaM vahanti; tathASTa pAdaH zarabhaH siMhaghAtI aSTau vasUJa zuzruma devatAsu; yUpaza cASTAsrira vihitaH sarvayajJaH || 3-134-14 ||

hk transliteration

नवैवॊक्ताः सामिधेन्यः पितॄणां; तथा पराहुर नव यॊगं विषर्गम नवाक्षरा बृहती संप्रदिष्टा; नव यॊगॊ गणनामेति शश्वत ।। ३-१३४-१५ ।।

sanskrit

'Vandin said, "Nine are the mantras used in kindling the sacrificial fire for the Pitris; nine are the prescribed functions in the processes of creation; nine letters make up the foot of the Vrihati metre; and nine is also the constant number in the calculation of figures."' ।। 3-134-15 ।।

english translation

navaivòktAH sAmidhenyaH pitRRNAM; tathA parAhura nava yògaM viSargama navAkSarA bRhatI saMpradiSTA; nava yògò gaNanAmeti zazvata || 3-134-15 ||
