न हय अस्य वीर्येण बलेन कश चित; समः पृथिव्यां भविता नरेषु शीतॊष्णवातातप कर्शिताङ्गॊ; न शेषम आजाव असुहृत्सु कुर्यात ।। ३-११९-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'There is not a single soul in the entire world who can claim strength and prowess equal to his. Yet, alas, his body has become emaciated from the harshness of cold, heat, and wind. However, when he rises to battle, he will leave not a single one of his enemies unvanquished.' ।। 3-119-16 ।।

english translation

na haya asya vIryeNa balena kaza cita; samaH pRthivyAM bhavitA nareSu zItòSNavAtAtapa karzitAGgò; na zeSama AjAva asuhRtsu kuryAta || 3-119-16 ||

पराच्यां नृपान एकरथेन जित्वा; वृकॊदरः सानुचरान रणेषु सवस्त्यागमद यॊ ऽति रथस तरॊ वी; सॊ ऽयं वने कलिश्यति चीरवासः ।। ३-११९-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'This formidable hero, Bhima, whose appetite rivals that of a wolf, single-handedly vanquished all the kings of the east, along with their followers in battle, returning from those conquests safe and unscathed. Yet now, clad only in the bark of trees, he endures a wretched existence in the depths of the forest.' ।। 3-119-17 ।।

english translation

parAcyAM nRpAna ekarathena jitvA; vRkòdaraH sAnucarAna raNeSu savastyAgamada yò 'ti rathasa tarò vI; sò 'yaM vane kalizyati cIravAsaH || 3-119-17 ||

hk transliteration

यॊ दन्तकूरे वयजयन नृदेवान; समागतान दाक्षिणात्यान मही पान तं पश्यतेमं सहदेवम अद्य; तपॊ विनं तापस वेषरूपम ।। ३-११९-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'This mighty Sahadeva, who conquered all the kings of the south—those lords who had assembled by the seashore—now stands before you dressed as an ascetic.' ।। 3-119-18 ।।

english translation

yò dantakUre vayajayana nRdevAna; samAgatAna dAkSiNAtyAna mahI pAna taM pazyatemaM sahadevama adya; tapò vinaM tApasa veSarUpama || 3-119-18 ||

यः पार्थिवान एकरथेन वीरॊ; दिशं परतीचीं परति युद्धशौण्डः सॊ ऽयं वने मूलफलेन जीवञ; जटी चरत्य अद्य मलाचिताङ्गः ।। ३-११९-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'And Nakula, the valiant warrior who single-handedly defeated the rulers of the western regions, now roams the forest, surviving on fruits and roots, his hair matted and his body covered in dirt.' ।। 3-119-19 ।।

english translation

yaH pArthivAna ekarathena vIrò; dizaM paratIcIM parati yuddhazauNDaH sò 'yaM vane mUlaphalena jIvaJa; jaTI caratya adya malAcitAGgaH || 3-119-19 ||

सत्रे समृद्धे ऽति रथस्य राज्ञॊ; वेदी तलाद उत्पतिता सुता या सेयं वनेवासम इमं सुदुःखं; कथं सहत्य अद्य सती सुखार्हा ।। ३-११९-२० ।।

sanskrit

'The daughter of a king, renowned for her prowess as a mounted warrior, emerged from beneath the altar during the grandeur of sacrificial rites. She has always been accustomed to a life of luxury and happiness; how then can she endure this wretched existence in the woods?' ।। 3-119-20 ।।

english translation

satre samRddhe 'ti rathasya rAjJò; vedI talAda utpatitA sutA yA seyaM vanevAsama imaM suduHkhaM; kathaM sahatya adya satI sukhArhA || 3-119-20 ||
