सर्वे च देवा मुदिताः परहृष्टा; महर्षयश चेन्द्रम अभिष्टुवन्तः सर्वांश च दैत्यांस तवरिताः समेत्य; जघ्नुः सुरा वृत्रवधाभितप्तान ॥ ३-९९-१६ ॥
'Filled with joy, the celestials and the great Rishis began to sing the praises of Indra with great enthusiasm. Gathering together, the gods swiftly set upon the Danavas, who were demoralized by the loss of their leader, and began to vanquish them.' ॥ 3-99-16 ॥

sarve ca devA muditAH parahRSTA; maharSayaza cendrama abhiSTuvantaH sarvAMza ca daityAMsa tavaritAH sametya; jaghnuH surA vRtravadhAbhitaptAna ॥ 3-99-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptते वध्यमानास तरिदशैस तदानीं; समुद्रम एवाविविशुर भयार्ताः परविश्य चैवॊदधिम अप्रमेयं; झषाकुलं रत्नसमाकुलं च ॥ ३-९९-१७ ॥
'Being killed/attacked by the gods (Tridasha) at that time, they entered the ocean, afflicted with fear. Having entered that immeasurable ocean, which was filled with fish and abundant with jewels.' ॥ 3-99-17 ॥

te vadhyamAnAsa taridazaisa tadAnIM; samudrama evAvivizura bhayArtAH paravizya caivòdadhima aprameyaM; jhaSAkulaM ratnasamAkulaM ca ॥ 3-99-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतदा सम मन्त्रं सहिताः परचक्रुस; तरैलॊक्यनाशार्थम अभिस्मयन्तः तत्र सम के चिन मतिनिश्चय जञास; तांस तान उपायान अनुवर्णयन्ति ॥ ३-९९-१८ ॥
'Then, gathered together, they made plans/consultations, smiling/laughing at the thought of destroying the three worlds. There, some who were sure in their wisdom/intelligence described various means (to achieve this).' ॥ 3-99-18 ॥
english translation
tadA sama mantraM sahitAH paracakrusa; tarailòkyanAzArthama abhismayantaH tatra sama ke cina matinizcaya jaJAsa; tAMsa tAna upAyAna anuvarNayanti ॥ 3-99-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतेषां तु तत्र करमकालयॊगाद; घॊरा मतिश चिन्तयतां बभूव ये सन्ति विद्या तपसॊपपन्नास; तेषां विनाशः परथमं तु कार्यः ॥ ३-९९-१९ ॥
'And there, due to the influence of fate/time (kramakala), a terrible thought arose in their minds while contemplating: 'Those who possess knowledge and are endowed with penance/austerities (tapas) - their destruction should be accomplished first.'"' ॥ 3-99-19 ॥

teSAM tu tatra karamakAlayògAda; ghòrA matiza cintayatAM babhUva ye santi vidyA tapasòpapannAsa; teSAM vinAzaH parathamaM tu kAryaH ॥ 3-99-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptलॊका हि सर्वे तपसा धरियन्ते; तस्मात तवरध्वं तपसः कषयाय ये सन्ति के चिद धि वसुंधरायां; तपस्विनॊ धर्मविदश च तज जञाः तेषां वधः करियतां कषिप्रम एव; तेषु परनष्टेषु जगत परनष्टम ॥ ३-९९-२० ॥
'For all the worlds are sustained by tapas (spiritual power/austerities); therefore, hasten towards the destruction of tapas. Whoever exists on earth who are ascetics (tapasvins), knowers of dharma, and wise, Let their destruction be done quickly; when they are destroyed, the world will be destroyed.' ॥ 3-99-20 ॥

lòkA hi sarve tapasA dhariyante; tasmAta tavaradhvaM tapasaH kaSayAya ye santi ke cida dhi vasuMdharAyAM; tapasvinò dharmavidaza ca taja jaJAH teSAM vadhaH kariyatAM kaSiprama eva; teSu paranaSTeSu jagata paranaSTama ॥ 3-99-20 ॥
