स समाप्यायितः शक्रॊ विष्णुना दैवतैः सह ऋषिभिश च महाभागैर बलवान समपद्यत ।। ३-९९-११ ।।

sanskrit

'The unblemished Brahmarshis also bestowed their energies upon the chief of the celestials. Thus favored by Vishnu, all the gods, and the highly blessed Rishis, Sakra emerged even mightier than before.' ।। 3-99-11 ।।

english translation

sa samApyAyitaH zakrò viSNunA daivataiH saha RSibhiza ca mahAbhAgaira balavAna samapadyata || 3-99-11 ||

hk transliteration

जञात्वा बलस्थं तरिदशाधिपं तु; ननाद वृत्रॊ महतॊ निनादान तस्य परणादेन धरा दिशश च; खं दयौर नगराश चापि चचाल सर्वम ।। ३-९९-१२ ।।

sanskrit

'When Vritra realized that the chief of the celestials had been empowered by others, he unleashed a series of fearsome roars. At the sound of these roars, the earth quaked, the directions trembled, the skies shook, and the mountains shuddered.' ।। 3-99-12 ।।

english translation

jaJAtvA balasthaM taridazAdhipaM tu; nanAda vRtrò mahatò ninAdAna tasya paraNAdena dharA dizaza ca; khaM dayaura nagarAza cApi cacAla sarvama || 3-99-12 ||

ततॊ महेन्द्रः परमाभितप्तः; शरुत्वा रवं घॊररूपं महान्तम भये निमग्नस तवरितं मुमॊच; वज्रं महत तस्य वधाय राजन ।। ३-९९-१३ ।।

sanskrit

'And the chief of the celestials, deeply unsettled by that fierce and thunderous roar, was filled with trepidation. Eager to swiftly vanquish the Asura, he hurled the mighty Vajra, O king.' ।। 3-99-13 ।।

english translation

tatò mahendraH paramAbhitaptaH; zarutvA ravaM ghòrarUpaM mahAntama bhaye nimagnasa tavaritaM mumòca; vajraM mahata tasya vadhAya rAjana || 3-99-13 ||

स शक्रवज्राभिहतः पपात; महासुरः काञ्चनमाल्यधारी यथा महाञ शैलवरः पुरस्तात; स मन्दरॊ विष्णुकरात परमुक्तः ।। ३-९९-१४ ।।

sanskrit

'Struck by Indra's Vajra, the formidable Asura, adorned with gold and garlands, fell headlong, resembling the mighty Mandara that was cast aside from Vishnu's hands of old.' ।। 3-99-14 ।।

english translation

sa zakravajrAbhihataH papAta; mahAsuraH kAJcanamAlyadhArI yathA mahAJa zailavaraH purastAta; sa mandarò viSNukarAta paramuktaH || 3-99-14 ||

hk transliteration

तस्मिन हते दैत्य वरे भयार्तः; शक्रः पदुद्राव सरः परवेष्टुम वज्रं न मेने सवकरात परमुक्तं; वृत्रं हतं चापि भयान न मेने ।। ३-९९-१५ ।।

sanskrit

'Although the prince of the Daityas had been slain, Sakra, in his panic, fled the battlefield, seeking refuge in a lake. He believed that the Vajra had not truly been cast from his hands and feared that Vritra still lived.' ।। 3-99-15 ।।

english translation

tasmina hate daitya vare bhayArtaH; zakraH padudrAva saraH paraveSTuma vajraM na mene savakarAta paramuktaM; vRtraM hataM cApi bhayAna na mene || 3-99-15 ||
