[व] ततः संप्रस्थितॊ राजा कौन्तेयॊ भूरिदक्षिणः अगस्त्याश्रमम आसाद्य दुर्जयायाम उवास ह ॥ ३-९४-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, 'Thereafter, the royal son of Kunti, renowned for his generous gifts to the Brahmanas, journeyed to the hermitage of Agastya and made his residence in Durjaya.'' ॥ 3-94-1 ॥
english translation
[va] tataH saMprasthitò rAjA kaunteyò bhUridakSiNaH agastyAzramama AsAdya durjayAyAma uvAsa ha ॥ 3-94-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्र वै लॊमशं राजा पप्रच्छ वदतां वरः अगस्त्येनेह वातापिः किमर्थम उपशामितः ॥ ३-९४-२ ॥
'It was here that the foremost of speakers, King Yudhishthira, asked Lomasa why Agastya had slain Vatapi.' ॥ 3-94-2 ॥

tatra vai lòmazaM rAjA papraccha vadatAM varaH agastyeneha vAtApiH kimarthama upazAmitaH ॥ 3-94-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptआसीद वा किंप्रभावश च स दैत्यॊ मानवान्तकः किमर्थं चॊद्गतॊ मन्युर अगस्त्यस्य महात्मनः ॥ ३-९४-३ ॥
'The king also inquired about the extent of the prowess of that man-destroying Daitya and sought to understand the reason behind the illustrious Agastya's wrath against that Asura.' ॥ 3-94-3 ॥

AsIda vA kiMprabhAvaza ca sa daityò mAnavAntakaH kimarthaM còdgatò manyura agastyasya mahAtmanaH ॥ 3-94-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscript[ल] इल्वलॊ नाम दैतेय आसीत कौरवनन्दन मणिमत्यां पुरि पुरा वातापिस तस्य चानुजः ॥ ३-९४-४ ॥
'Thus questioned, Lomasa replied, 'O son of the Kuru race, in ancient times, there was a Daitya named Ilvala who resided in the city of Manimati, and his younger brother was Vatapi.' ॥ 3-94-4 ॥

[la] ilvalò nAma daiteya AsIta kauravanandana maNimatyAM puri purA vAtApisa tasya cAnujaH ॥ 3-94-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस बराह्मणं तपॊ युक्तम उवाच दितिनन्दनः पुत्रं मे भगवान एकम इन्द्र तुल्यं परयच्छतु ॥ ३-९४-५ ॥
'One day, that son of Diti approached the Brahmana endowed with ascetic merit and said, 'O holy one, please grant me a son who is equal to Indra in glory.'' ॥ 3-94-5 ॥

sa barAhmaNaM tapò yuktama uvAca ditinandanaH putraM me bhagavAna ekama indra tulyaM parayacchatu ॥ 3-94-5 ॥
