मन्ये सवयंवरकृते लॊकपालाः समागताः परत्याख्याता मया तत्र नलस्यार्थाय देवताः नूनं तेषां परभावेन वियॊगं पराप्तवत्य अहम ॥ ३-६२-१६ ॥
'I believe I endure this separation from my husband because of the power of the celestial Lokapalas, who came to my swayamvara, but whom I rejected for the sake of Nala.' ॥ 3-62-16 ॥

एवमादीनि दुःखानि सा विलप्य वराङ्गना हतशिष्टैः सह तदा बराह्मणैर वेदपारगैः अगच्छद राजशार्दूल दुःखशॊकपरायणा ॥ ३-६२-१७ ॥
'Thus lamenting, O tiger among kings, the noble Damayanti, devoted to her husband and pale as the autumn moon, proceeded with the surviving Brahmanas versed in the Vedas, weighed down by grief after the massacre of the caravan.' ॥ 3-62-17 ॥

गच्छन्ती सा चिरात कालात पुरम आसादयन महत सायाह्ने चेदिराजस्य सुबाहॊर सत्यवादिनः वस्त्रार्धकर्तसंवीता परविवेश पुरॊत्तमम ॥ ३-६२-१८ ॥
'Departing swiftly, the damsel arrived in the evening at the grand city of Suvahu, the truth-telling king of the Chedis. She entered that esteemed city, clad in a half garment.' ॥ 3-62-18 ॥

तां विवर्णां कृशां दीनां मुक्तकेशीम अमार्जनाम उन्मत्ताम इव गच्छन्तीं ददृशुः पुरवासिनः ॥ ३-६२-१९ ॥
'The citizens watched as she passed by, filled with fear—lean, sorrowful, her hair disheveled and covered in dust, resembling a madwoman.' ॥ 3-62-19 ॥

परविशन्तीं तु तां दृष्ट्वा चेदिराजपुरीं तदा अनुजग्मुस ततॊ बाला गरामिपुत्राः कुतूहलात ॥ ३-६२-२० ॥
'Noticing her enter the city of the king of the Chedis, the local boys, driven by curiosity, began to follow her.' ॥ 3-62-20 ॥
