[धृ] एतद वाक्यं विदुर यत ते सभायाम; इह परॊक्तं पाण्डवान पराप्य मां च हितं तेषाम अहितं मामकानाम; एतत सर्वं मम नॊपैति चेतः ॥ ३-५-१६ ॥
'Dhritarashtra said: "Vidura, the words you have spoken in this assembly, concerning both the Pandavas and myself, seem to benefit them rather than us. My mind does not accept them."' ॥ 3-5-16 ॥
english translation
[dhR] etada vAkyaM vidura yata te sabhAyAma; iha paròktaM pANDavAna parApya mAM ca hitaM teSAma ahitaM mAmakAnAma; etata sarvaM mama nòpaiti cetaH ॥ 3-5-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइदं तव इदानीं कुत एव निश्चितं; तेषाम अर्थे पाण्डवानां यद आत्थ तेनाद्य मन्ये नासि हितॊ ममेति; कथं हि पुत्रं पाण्डवार्थे तयजेयम ॥ ३-५-१७ ॥
'How have you resolved this in your mind? Given that you have spoken on behalf of the Pandavas, I feel that you are not supportive of me. How can I abandon my son for the sake of the sons of Pandu?' ॥ 3-5-17 ॥
english translation
idaM tava idAnIM kuta eva nizcitaM; teSAma arthe pANDavAnAM yada Attha tenAdya manye nAsi hitò mameti; kathaM hi putraM pANDavArthe tayajeyama ॥ 3-5-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअसंशयं ते ऽपि ममैव पुत्रा; दुर्यॊधनस तु मम देहात परसूतः सवं वै देहं परहेतॊस तयजेति; कॊ नु बरूयात समताम अन्ववेक्षन ॥ ३-५-१८ ॥
'Undoubtedly, they are my sons, but Duryodhana is my own flesh and blood. Who, with true impartiality, would advise me to forsake my own flesh for the sake of others?' ॥ 3-5-18 ॥
english translation
asaMzayaM te 'pi mamaiva putrA; duryòdhanasa tu mama dehAta parasUtaH savaM vai dehaM parahetòsa tayajeti; kò nu barUyAta samatAma anvavekSana ॥ 3-5-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस मा जिह्मं विदुर सर्वं बरवीषि; मानं च ते ऽहम अधिकं धारयामि यथेच्छकं गच्छ वा तिष्ठ वा तवं; सुसान्त्व्यमानाप्य असती सत्री जहाति ॥ ३-५-१९ ॥
'O Vidura, while I hold you in high regard, I find your counsel to be misguided. Stay or leave as you choose. Even if one tries to please a wayward wife, she will abandon her husband.' ॥ 3-5-19 ॥
english translation
sa mA jihmaM vidura sarvaM baravISi; mAnaM ca te 'hama adhikaM dhArayAmi yathecchakaM gaccha vA tiSTha vA tavaM; susAntvyamAnApya asatI satrI jahAti ॥ 3-5-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscript[व] एतावद उक्त्वा धृतराष्ट्रॊ ऽनवपद्यद; अन्तर वेश्म सहसॊत्थाय राजन नेदम अस्तीत्य अथ विदुरॊ भाषमाणः; संप्राद्रवद यत्र पार्थ बभूवुः ॥ ३-५-२० ॥
'Vaishampayana said: "O King, having said this, Dhritarashtra abruptly left and retreated to the inner apartments. Meanwhile, Vidura, declaring 'This dynasty is doomed,' went to where the sons of Pritha were."' ॥ 3-5-20 ॥

[va] etAvada uktvA dhRtarASTrò 'navapadyada; antara vezma sahasòtthAya rAjana nedama astItya atha vidurò bhASamANaH; saMprAdravada yatra pArtha babhUvuH ॥ 3-5-20 ॥
