स विद्धॊ बहुभिर बाणैर दीप्तास्यैः पन्नगैर इव ममार राक्षसं रूपं भूयः कृत्वा विभीषणम ॥ ३-४०-१६ ॥
'Struck by the two shafts, which released numerous blazing arrows like serpents with fiery mouths, Muka succumbed, reverting to his fearsome Rakshasa form.' ॥ 3-40-16 ॥

ददर्शाथ ततॊ जिष्णुः पुरुषं काञ्चनप्रभम किरात वेषप्रच्छन्नं सत्री सहायम अमित्रहा ॥ ३-४०-१७ ॥
'Jishnu, the foe-slayer, then beheld before him a radiant figure, dressed as a Kirata and accompanied by many women.' ॥ 3-40-17 ॥

तम अब्रवीत परीतमनाः कौन्तेयः परहसन्न इव कॊ भवान अटते घॊरे विभेषि कनकप्रभ ॥ ३-४०-१८ ॥
'Seeing him, the son of Kunti, with a joyful heart and a smile, said, 'Who are you, wandering in these desolate woods surrounded by women? With your golden splendor, are you not afraid of this dangerous forest?'' ॥ 3-40-18 ॥

किमर्थं च तवया विद्धॊ मृगॊ ऽयं मत्परिग्रहः मयाभिपन्नः पूर्वं हि राक्षसॊ ऽयम इहागतः ॥ ३-४०-१९ ॥
'Why did you shoot the boar that I had already targeted? This Rakshasa, who came here either idly or with the intent to kill me, was first aimed at by me.' ॥ 3-40-19 ॥

कामात परिभवाद वापि न मे जीवन विमॊक्ष्यसे न हय एष मृगया धर्मॊ यस तवयाद्य कृतॊ मयि तेन तवां भरंशयिष्यामि जीवितात पर्वताश्रय ॥ ३-४०-२० ॥
'Therefore, you shall not escape with your life. Your conduct towards me does not adhere to the proper customs of the hunt. Thus, O mountaineer, I will take your life.' ॥ 3-40-20 ॥
