तम उवाच ततः परीतः स दविजः परहसन्न इव वरं वृणीष्व भद्रं ते शक्रॊ ऽहम अरिसूदनः ॥ ३-३८-३६ ॥
'Pleased and with a smile, the Brahmana finally spoke, saying, "Choose a boon, O hero. I am Sakra, the slayer of enemies. May you be blessed!"' ॥ 3-38-36 ॥
english translation
tama uvAca tataH parItaH sa davijaH parahasanna iva varaM vRNISva bhadraM te zakrò 'hama arisUdanaH ॥ 3-38-36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवम उक्तः परत्युवाच सहस्राक्षं धनंजयः पराञ्जलिः परणतॊ भूत्वा शूरः कुलकुलॊद्वहः ॥ ३-३८-३७ ॥
'Thus addressed, the perpetuator of the Kuru race, the valiant Dhananjaya, with his head bowed and hands joined, replied to him of a thousand eyes: "Blessed be thou, O Sakra! I seek the boon of the divine weapons which will aid me in my mission."' ॥ 3-38-37 ॥

evama uktaH paratyuvAca sahasrAkSaM dhanaMjayaH parAJjaliH paraNatò bhUtvA zUraH kulakulòdvahaH ॥ 3-38-37 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptईप्सितॊ हय एष मे कामॊ वरं चैनं परयच्छ मे तवत्तॊ ऽदय भगवन्न अस्त्रं कृत्स्नम इच्छामि वेदितुम ॥ ३-३८-३८ ॥
'This is indeed my desired wish, and grant me this boon: From you, O Lord, I wish to learn the entire science of weapons today.' ॥ 3-38-38 ॥
english translation
Ipsitò haya eSa me kAmò varaM cainaM parayaccha me tavattò 'daya bhagavanna astraM kRtsnama icchAmi vedituma ॥ 3-38-38 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरत्युवाच महेन्द्रस तं परीतात्मा परहसन्न इव इह पराप्तस्य किं कार्यम अस्त्रैस तव धनंजय कामान वृणीष्व लॊकांश च पराप्तॊ ऽसि परमां गतिम ॥ ३-३८-३९ ॥
'The chief of the celestials, smiling and cheerful, addressed him, saying: "O Dhananjaya, now that you have arrived in this sacred realm, what need have you for weapons? You have already attained a state of purity and exaltation."' ॥ 3-38-39 ॥
english translation
paratyuvAca mahendrasa taM parItAtmA parahasanna iva iha parAptasya kiM kAryama astraisa tava dhanaMjaya kAmAna vRNISva lòkAMza ca parAptò 'si paramAM gatima ॥ 3-38-39 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवम उक्तः परत्युवाच सहस्राक्षं धनंजयः न लॊकान न पुनः कामान न देवत्वं कुतः सुखम ॥ ३-३८-४० ॥
'Thus addressed, Dhananjaya replied to the chief of the celestials: "O thousand-eyed one, I seek neither heavenly realms, nor worldly pleasures, nor divine status. My desire is not for transient happiness or the prosperity of the gods. What I truly seek is the knowledge of all weapons."' ॥ 3-38-40 ॥

evama uktaH paratyuvAca sahasrAkSaM dhanaMjayaH na lòkAna na punaH kAmAna na devatvaM kutaH sukhama ॥ 3-38-40 ॥
