[वै] कस्य चित तव अथ कालस्य धर्मराजॊ युधिष्ठिरः संस्मृत्य मुनिसंदेशम इदं वचनम अब्रवीत ॥ ३-३८-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana said, 'After some time, Yudhishthira the just, recalling the command of the sage Vyasa and summoning the foremost of men—'' ॥ 3-38-1 ॥

english translation

[vai] kasya cita tava atha kAlasya dharmarAjò yudhiSThiraH saMsmRtya munisaMdezama idaM vacanama abravIta ॥ 3-38-1 ॥

विविक्ते विदितप्रज्ञम अर्जुनं भरतर्षभम सान्त्वपूर्वं समितं कृत्वा पाणिना परिसंस्पृशन ॥ ३-३८-२ ॥

'Arjuna, renowned for his great wisdom, was addressed privately by Yudhishthira. Taking Arjuna's hands, Yudhishthira spoke to him with a smiling face and in gentle tones.' ॥ 3-38-2 ॥

vivikte viditaprajJama arjunaM bharatarSabhama sAntvapUrvaM samitaM kRtvA pANinA parisaMspRzana ॥ 3-38-2 ॥

स मुहूर्तम इव धयात्वा वनवासम अरिंदमः धनंजयं धर्मराजॊ रहसीदम उवाच ह ॥ ३-३८-३ ॥

'That chastiser of foes, the virtuous Yudhishthira, after seemingly reflecting for a moment, spoke these words in private to Dhananjaya.' ॥ 3-38-3 ॥

sa muhUrtama iva dhayAtvA vanavAsama ariMdamaH dhanaMjayaM dharmarAjò rahasIdama uvAca ha ॥ 3-38-3 ॥

भीष्मे दरॊणे कृपे कर्णे दरॊणपुत्रे च भारत धनुर्वेदश चतुष्पाद एतेष्व अद्य परतिष्ठितः ॥ ३-३८-४ ॥

'O Bharata, the entire science of warfare resides in Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Karna, and Drona's son.' ॥ 3-38-4 ॥

bhISme daròNe kRpe karNe daròNaputre ca bhArata dhanurvedaza catuSpAda eteSva adya paratiSThitaH ॥ 3-38-4 ॥

बराह्मं दैवम आसुरं च सप्रयॊग चिकित्सितम सर्वास्त्राणां परयॊगं च ते ऽभिजानन्ति कृत्स्नशः ॥ ३-३८-५ ॥

'They possess complete knowledge of all kinds of Brahma, celestial, human, and Vayavya weapons, along with the techniques for both deploying and countering them.' ॥ 3-38-5 ॥

barAhmaM daivama AsuraM ca saprayòga cikitsitama sarvAstrANAM parayògaM ca te 'bhijAnanti kRtsnazaH ॥ 3-38-5 ॥
