[य] माता गुरुतरा भूमेः पिता उच्चरतश च खात मनॊ शीघ्रतरं वायॊश चिन्ता बहुतरी नृणाम ।। ३-२९७-४१ ।।

'Yudhishthira answered: "A mother is heavier than the earth; a father, higher than the sky. The mind is faster than the wind, and our thoughts outnumber the blades of grass."' ।। 3-297-41 ।।

[ya] mAtA gurutarA bhUmeH pitA uccarataza ca khAta manò zIghrataraM vAyòza cintA bahutarI nRNAma || 3-297-41 ||

[यक्स] किं सवित सुप्तं न निमिषति किं सविज जातं न चॊपति कस्य सविद धृदयं नास्ति किं सविद वेगेन वर्घते ।। ३-२९७-४२ ।।

'The Yaksha asked: "What is it that does not close its eyes while asleep? What remains motionless after being born? What is that which has no heart? And what is it that swells by its own force?"' ।। 3-297-42 ।।

[yaksa] kiM savita suptaM na nimiSati kiM savija jAtaM na còpati kasya savida dhRdayaM nAsti kiM savida vegena varghate || 3-297-42 ||

[य] मत्स्यः सुप्तॊ न निमिषत्य अण्डं जातं न चॊपति अश्मनॊ हृदयं नास्ति नदीवेगेन वर्धते ।। ३-२९७-४३ ।।

'Yudhishthira answered: "A fish does not close its eyes even in sleep. An egg, once formed, does not move. A stone is without a heart. And a river swells by the force of its own current."' ।। 3-297-43 ।।

'Yaksha asked: "Who is a friend to one who is away from home? Who is a friend to one who remains at home? Who is a friend to the sick? And who is a friend to the dying?"' ।। 3-297-44 ।।

'Yudhishthira answered: "The friend of one who is an exile in a distant land is his companion; the friend of a householder is his wife; the friend of the sick is the physician; and the friend of one who is about to die is charity."' ।। 3-297-45 ।।
