[कर्ण] वर्मणा कुण्डलाभ्यां च शक्तिं मे देहि वासव अमॊघां शत्रुसंघानां घातिनीं पृतना मुखे ॥ ३-२९४-२१ ॥
'He addressed Indra, saying, "O Vasava, in exchange for my coat of mail and earrings, grant me a dart that never fails—one capable of destroying entire hosts of enemies when they are arrayed in battle formation."' ॥ 3-294-21 ॥
english translation
ततः संचिन्त्य मनसा मुहूर्तम इव वासवः शक्त्यर्थं पृथिवीपाल कर्णं वाक्यम अथाब्रवीत ॥ ३-२९४-२२ ॥
'Then Indra, lord of the heavens, pondered silently for a moment. Reflecting on Karna’s request for the celestial dart, he addressed the earth's protector with these words.' ॥ 3-294-22 ॥
english translation
कुण्डले मे परयच्छस्व वर्म चैव शरीरजम गृहाण कर्ण शक्तिं तवम अनेन समयेन मे ॥ ३-२९४-२३ ॥
'Give me your earrings and the coat of mail born with your body, and in return, accept this dart on these terms:' ॥ 3-294-23 ॥
english translation
अमॊघा हन्ति शतशः शत्रून मम करच्युता पुनश च पाणिम अभ्येति मम दैत्यान विनिघ्नतः ॥ ३-२९४-२४ ॥
'When I face the Daitya in battle, this unfailing dart, hurled by my hand, will destroy hundreds of enemies and then return to my hand after fulfilling its purpose.' ॥ 3-294-24 ॥
english translation
सेयं तव करं पराप्य हत्वैकं रिपुम ऊर्जितम गर्जन्तं परतपन्तं च माम एवैष्यति सूतज ॥ ३-२९४-२५ ॥
'In your hand, however, O son of Suta, this dart will slay only one powerful enemy of yours. And having accomplished that deed, it will, roaring and blazing, return to me.' ॥ 3-294-25 ॥
