[वै] देवराजम अनुप्राप्तं बराह्मण छद्मना वृषः दृष्ट्वा सवागतम इत्य आह न बुबॊधास्य मानसम ।। ३-२९४-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaiśampāyana said: And when the king of the celestials appeared in the guise of a Brāhmaṇa, Karna beheld him and said, 'Welcome!'—unaware of the purpose that lay in his heart.' ।। 3-294-1 ।।

english translation

[vai] devarAjama anuprAptaM barAhmaNa chadmanA vRSaH dRSTvA savAgatama itya Aha na bubòdhAsya mAnasama || 3-294-1 ||

हिरण्यकण्ठीः परमदा गरामान वा बहु गॊकुलान किं ददानीति तं विप्रम उवाचाधिरथिस ततः ।। ३-२९४-२ ।।

'Adhiratha's son then said to the Brāhmaṇa, 'Of a golden necklace, beauteous maidens, or villages abounding in cattle — which of these shall I give thee?'' ।। 3-294-2 ।।

english translation

hiraNyakaNThIH paramadA garAmAna vA bahu gòkulAna kiM dadAnIti taM viprama uvAcAdhirathisa tataH || 3-294-2 ||

[बरा] हिरण्यकण्ठ्यः परमदा यच चान्यत परीतिवर्धनम नाहं दत्तम इहेच्छामि तदर्थिभ्यः परदीयताम ।। ३-२९४-३ ।।

sanskrit

'Thereupon the Brāhmaṇa replied, 'I ask not of thee a necklace of gold, nor fair maidens, nor any other pleasing gift. Bestow such things upon those who seek them.'' ।। 3-294-3 ।।

[barA] hiraNyakaNThyaH paramadA yaca cAnyata parItivardhanama nAhaM dattama ihecchAmi tadarthibhyaH paradIyatAma || 3-294-3 ||

'I desire, O chastiser of foes, that thou wouldst swiftly grant me these; for this single boon shall be esteemed above all other gains!' ।। 3-294-5 ।।
