[मार्क] सा बरूहि विस्तरेणेति पित्रा संचॊदिता शुभा दैवतस्येव वचनं परतिगृह्येदम अब्रवीत ॥ ३-२७८-६ ॥
'Urged by her father to speak in full, the noble maiden accepted his words as one might receive the command of a god — and thus she began to speak.' ॥ 3-278-6 ॥

आसीच छाल्वेषु धर्मात्मा कषत्रियः पृथिवीपतिः दयुमत्सेन इति खयातः पश्चाद अन्धॊ बभूव ह ॥ ३-२७८-७ ॥
'Among the Salwas, there was once a virtuous Kshatriya king named Dyumatsena. In the course of time, it so happened that he lost his sight.' ॥ 3-278-7 ॥

विनष्ट चक्षुर अस तस्य बाल पुत्रस्य धीमतः सामीप्येन हृतं राज्यं छिद्रे ऽसमिन पूर्ववैरिणा ॥ ३-२७८-८ ॥
'That wise but blind king had a single son. And it so happened that a former enemy, dwelling nearby, seized the opportunity of his affliction and usurped his kingdom.' ॥ 3-278-8 ॥

स बालवत्सया सार्धं भार्यया परस्थितॊ वनम महारण्यगतश चापि तपस तेपे महाव्रतः ॥ ३-२७८-९ ॥
'Then the king, with his faithful wife carrying their young child at her breast, departed for the forest. Dwelling amidst the wilderness, he took up lofty vows and engaged in severe asceticism.' ॥ 3-278-9 ॥

तस्य पुत्रः पुरे जातः संवृद्धश च तपॊवने सत्यवान अनुरूपॊ मे भर्तेति मनसा वृतः ॥ ३-२७८-१० ॥
'His son, born amid royal halls, grew to manhood in the forest hermitage. That youth, so fitting to be my husband, I have taken to heart as my chosen lord.' ॥ 3-278-10 ॥
